"Heimlich” is the German word for “secretly.”

Also, Sigmund Freud, in his essay on “The Uncanny” discusses how both “heimlich” and “un-heimlich” work as two-sides of the coin for explaining his concept—which most English speakers translate as “uncanny.”

It is also the last name for two Cincinnati notables:  Dr. Henry Heimlich (supposed inventor of the Heimlich Maneuver), and Phil Heimlich, a Hamilton County Commissioner likely to be serving his final term.
