The Cincinnati Beacon
Westside Republicans Mix Partisan Politics with Allegedly Non-Partisan Ballot Issues
Friday, October 20, 2006

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Some would have us believe that Issue 12 (the alleged Jail Tax ballot initiative) is a non-partisan issue.  But why does Phil Heimlich and his friends keep making partisan campaign events in connection with Issue 12?  Is Issue 12 a non-partisan ballot measure, or just a campaign talking point for Team Heimlich?

Here is a reproduction of a recent invitation sent out by the Heimlich campaign.  Notice the event is co-hosted by Melva Gweyn, the Westside’s most famous race-baiter.

  1. Power of 5 Doppler says:

Are you serious?  The democrats are intertwined with every pinko issue under the sun and the Beacon makes an issue out of a group of people supporting an issue they feel strongly about?  So being somewhat politicaly organized should disqualify you from actively supporting a ballot issue?  Come on.  Some of those people on that list would be a little upset if they were be called right-wingers.  Heck, some of them are playing for both teams.

  2. Anon says:

Power, the Dean is correct!  Issue 12 should remain strictly a non-partisan issue.  Which naturally explains why David Pepper will speak out for it or against it, depending on his audience.

  3. says:

Pinko? Steve Fritsch really needs to come up with some new adages for those who don’t agree with him. Wake up pal, it’s not 1962 anymore.

  4. says:

Candidates supporting an issue is one thing, but holding a partisan event that bills those three characters together is something else.  But what can you expect from Melva Gweyn.

if the greens did it it would be “supporting democracy in action” according to this website.

  6. WestieWestsider says:

Just remember-Melva is NOT THE VOICE OF ALL WESTSIDERS.

  7. says:

Then all of you should get together to form the Progressive Westside Alliance to combat the evils of Westwood Concern.

Let me know when you have your first meeting.  I’ll try to cover it.
