Alicia Reece is hosting a complimentary luncheon featuring Congressman Artur Davis of Birmingham, AL and Congressional Candidate John Cranley, Friday, July 7, 2006 from 11:30am-1pm.

“All of us would welcome a political reality in which the political process was never manipulated to disadvantage voters who are in the minority in their communities.”

The Honorable Artur Davis, 7Th Congressional District of Alabama

Congressman Artur Davis represents the 7Th Congressional district and sits on two powerful committees—the House Budget and Financial Services Committees. He has taken a leadership role on the Voting Rights Act.

This is the Congressman’s first trip to Cincinnati so we want to show great support for our candidate, John Cranley.

We are inviting all precinct executives, ward chairs, democratic leaders, and supporters. We are asking people to RSVP at 731-6300 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) because we have free hot lunch for the first 100 people.

I haven’t heard about Alicia Reece since The 7th annual Roller-Soul Skate Fest

Who knew Reece was tight with Bootsy Collins?

  2. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

Why can’t Reece just go away quietly? He was a real bonehead!

  3. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

I’ve always wondered about her residency, ever since Nate raised the issue to the level of the mainstream…

  4. Uncle Tom says:

It’s time to put J. Kenneth Blackwell behind bars. He’s a traitor to his race and his country.

Say what you want about Reece, she has been involved civically since childhood. One of her greatest strengths come with such matters as hosting skating parties so all members of a family can participate. A good politician gets the exposure. A knowledgeable civic servant involves people in the events. Here she gathers people together for a lunch and to hear a person from another part of the US on a topic that few locally “raise…to the level of the mainstream”. Issues of import this venue has successfully tackled since it came on the scene.

Open the links as I did and read what Davis has to say about the VOTING RIGHTS ACT being reauthorized. Issues like this are ones Cranley will be representing us on in Washington. That’s the tangible of the present. Dean, what would loss of a right to vote mean to your family? How does it translate to what you provide your son as a freedom before he is able to vote? Those are the questions I have to ask of myself for my children.

  6. Vote Fitrakis says:

She was also involved in the Hunigton meadows scam.

You may have the right to vote, but you need the right to have your vote counted. We need clean elections!

  7. factchecker says:

Dean you ripped the info from a HCDP e mail, not a press release -not cool and also misleading. This is not intended to be a public invitation.
Also #2 post (Blue Gill?) appears to not know Alicia is a man-“He
was a real bonehead”. If you’re referring to her dad Steve then say so.

It says “supporters.”  That sounds public.

  9. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

Besides, I’m not on a private Dem. list.  If someone wants to send what looks to be a press release to a web publisher, he or she should specify why a seeming “release” is being sent.

I always honor emails marked “confidential.”

  10. factchecker says:

Unless it had the basics of a press release, including “For Immediate Release”, the name of a contact person, and ### at the bottom, you know perfectly well it’s not a press release (or at least you SHOULD know).

  11. sparky the clown says:

Last time I heard, Alicia was gearing up to run for Green Township Trustee.

  12. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

You are right.  It did not have all those elements.  But there are many public emails that do not have those elements.

For example, if I’m on a political activist list-serv, and an email comes—can I post it?

For years, I have answered that question affirmatively.

But really, “factchecker”—just email me with your real address if you have a problem and we’ll resolve it.

I mean, I appreciated when you posted those comments about “Las Americas Bakery.”  I know who you are.

Why bicker like this?  I apologize for making a small mistake.  But you wish to turn this into an issue.

    It is no issue.

  13. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

    Dear Dean and FactChecker:
First, Dean, thank you for your work getting information out to people that
    1) are great Cranley supporters,
    2) are great supporters of the reauthorization of THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT, and
    3) are great supporters of people who come together to hear information beyond the 275 Beltway Stranglehold on information.
    4) are regular Joes and Janes who want more than soundbite finger sandwiches.
I’ll add that there are also supporters of Alicia Reece as an active citizen, former councilmember, loyal Democrat and community facilitator for a wide range of informational benefits to citizens. In this matter I will stand as supportive on all counts.

Artur Davis’ important and unique visit here was presented to me in several ways:
    1) by a local phone call asking that I attend (cannot due to work, but I asked if could pass this on to people at work, in other groups I belong to, via voice, phone and e-mail)
    2) by no less than 3 separate e-mails, only one Party initiated, and,
    3) by people I am connected to by birth, marriage, politics and active participation in groups from Memphis to Louisville, Pittsburgh, Western Hills, Batavia, Springfield Township noting that such appearances are more needed now than ever for the average citizen to hear what really goes on in our halls of perceived power.

The ability to gather in smaller settings to hear dialogue that can/will impact our lives sometimes comes as exclusive to the point that many supporters/citizens are not included. Even in my work on an opposite team during the last mayoral, I never viewed Reece as closing doors on anyone in the party, or on supporters from diverse camps.

We need to care about voicing information surrounding The Voting Rights Act, and presenting a forum inclusive of a strong, articulate person running for the First Congressional in the body and work of John Cranley. This is important when gathering supporters from many backgrounds. Our county cannot afford such a mindset of exclusion with the number of ACTIVE affiliates in either party’s camp. The attachment at the end will explain why many of our ACTIVE “supporters” may actually not have chosen to be branded by a party logo, they ACTIVELY elected to remain Independents.

I will make an apology to both former Vice-Mayor Reece for throwing this into the public eye as I have done, and for the phone person that said it was okay I pass this information on. Dean, I appreciate your work herein, and apologize for causing you angst in the work you deliver us daily.

What I humbly ask of the audience is to look at the hard news here that will be part of the Friday event, and I think Nia C. asked, open the information on the links and add your feeling and insight about what is important on:
    1) the reauthorization of this act for us locally
(Use work that both Council Member Cranley, his team of intrepid citizen students at the UC Urban Justice Center, and Mayor Mallory as Ohio Senator did in restoring the 14th Amendment as part of Ohio’s pledge to its citizens and the nation…the tie to the Voting Rights Act of the 1960’s is important viewed in the context of ratification or non ratification):
    http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/310
    and
    http://www.cincypost.com/2003/09/10/ratify09-10-2003.html
    and,
2)ask where we would be if this act was not here for us as minorities in a wide range of persuasions.

The Dean, and Andrew Warner, received my invitation to go as they usually exemplify the ability to extract the best of a matter for public consumption/dialogue. While I do not always agree with view, remark or followup, the forum we all seem to use to vent, post and express ourselves does offer more than we can usually extract from other media.

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<  ATTACHED     >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The current number of registered voters in Hamilton County is:
555,843 as of 6/28/2006     this I got from the BOE website today.
On May 2, 2006 these facts were in play:
BOE archives (pulled today) on line shows there were 551, 748 possible voters
on May 2, 2006…....total ballots cast of 109,483
with 34,306 Dems voting, 62,330 Reps, and 12, 747 pulling issues ballots
    where there were issues.
From the gathered information from a purchased BOE CD,
run through two separate statistical sources and looking at some MoveOn.org
comparisons there appears to be the following:

Approximately 56,000     ACTIVE Registered Democratic Voters.
Approximately 70,000     ACTIVE Registered Republican Voters.
Approximately 336, 000   ACTIVE Non-Aligned Voters who have not
registered as supportive of either party.

Before you tag me for the 89,000-90,000 not accounted for, those folks have not been ACTIVE in the last several cycles, either due to moving in country or outside and haven’t pulled a ballot, some infirmity that causes them inability to vote regularly, or death.

While only close approximations, the margin of 126,000 active with a party as opposed to 336,000 not registering as a party affiliate can provides several views that I won’t get into here. But one that I know comes from the wide margin of difference exposed: ACTIVE Independents/ACTIVE non-aligned hold keys to supporting issues and the people that are elected based on their work for or against those issues. They cannot be ignored and often theirs are the voices we hear asking for the answers to the real HARD NEWS ISSUES. The facilitation of Reece’s convening is important to the average ACTIVE citizen…...she never forgets them. Cranley never forgets them. We should never forget our power as citizens.

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<  Questions   >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
So, Dean, FactChecker, BlueGill, others what are your insights on reauthorization of THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT?  If it would go by the board, would you still be in the same great frame you are now as an empowered citizen?

  14. fact checker says:

    Dean-
The issue is not whether all are welcome to hear the speaker. It’s simple- do you think the folks hosting this LUNCHEON want to buy lunch for a bunch of folks that found out about it on the blogosphere? Perhaps you won’t mind if we all show up at your house for lunch sometime uninvited. Or perhaps you’d like to pass the hat online and make a contribution to defray expenses…

  15. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

    Dear Dean:
I did confer with former Vice-Mayor Reece’s people and the gathering area does seat 100 people, that’s why the RSVPs are being adhered to for this gathering. The phone and RSVP are in the body of the original invitation.

  16. n* says:

Former vice-thug Ipsiquinetta has “people”? what is she actually doing now to pay the rent in that room above the banquet hall?

  17. Marley says:

“do you think the folks hosting this LUNCHEON want to buy lunch for a bunch of folks that found out about it on the blogosphere?”

Since when are democrats not about the free-lunch?  That’s their mantra!
