It’s about time: The Bush Impeachment
Monday, April 24, 2006

Posted by Andrew Warner

I’ve been clamoring for the for the impeachment of Bush for what seems like forever. Lucky for us, I’m not the only one.

Thanks to Eric at Plunderbund I caught wind of the greatest relief in years: Illinois and now California have done what the Democrats at the federal level couldn’t find the back bone to do, throw the yellow flag at a criminal president.

Who knew state legislatures could do such a thing? Not me.

In a story by Scoop, they cleverly titled the little-know loophole “Jefferson’s revenge.” Students of the game know “Jefferson was clear on his opposition to centralized federal power and frequently sought balances giving states greater liberties and rights,” says Scoop. I imagine Thomas Jefferson is smiling with satisfaction being the one who gets to eliminate this sorry excuse for an elected leader-- he can do from the grave what Ms. Clinton and Mr. Kerry can’t, or aren’t brave enough, to do in office.

Jefferson’s rule 603 reads:

Inception of impeachment proceedings in the House: “… there are various methods of setting an impeachment in motion: by charges made on the floor on the responsibility of a Member or Delegate; by charges preferred by a memorial, which is usually referred to a committee for examination; by a resolution dropped in the hopper by a Member and referred to a committee; by a message from the President; by charges transmitted from the legislature of a State or territory or from a grand jury…”

Our elected leaders may generally be incompetent, overly safe, or cowardly, but at least TJ had the oversight to recognize politicians hadn’t completely sold their souls while only serving at the state level.

Federal Democrats should be ashamed with themselves for making the state legislatures do their jobs for them, but those state legislators that set this in motion can call me for a favor anytime.

  1. says:

This is great news.  Bush’s crimes are much worse than lying about oral sex.

  2. Peter Deane says:

This will be interesting to see what happens.

  3. says:

I found this passage from the Scoop article linked above troublesome:

Illinois is a state dominated by the Democratic Party. Democratic presidential candidates carried the state by 60% margins in the last two elections. The governor and the legislature are controlled by the Democrats. At this time, the likelihood of passage is unknown. Coverage has been almost exclusively on internet blogs and one national opinion magazine, The Nation, in an article by John Nichols.

Why is this?  Why isn’t this thing in the press?

  4. says:

It wasn’t lying about oral sex...it was jeapordizing the nation’s security since both China & Russia knew about Monica before we did. You can’t have someone whose integrity is in peril having access to the “football”. Clinton committed perjury....what he lied about is insignificant.

There are no grounds to impeach W. It is merely wishful thinking by those who were on the losing side. Find another banner to carry!

  5. Blue Genius says:

It’s that liberal media bias Dean.

Blue Gill, there are plenty of reasons to impeach Bush. Lying us into war, spying on Americans, stealing elections and the list goes on.

  6. says:

Lying us into war....the whole world had this bad intelligence! That doesn’t make it right, but the fact remains decisions were made from bad intelligence. You can’t prosecute from hindsight!

Spying on Americans....I don’t think most Americans will argue the fact we are at war with terrorists....a foe we have never faced before....new strategies and tactics...however safeguards need to be in place so there are no abuses. So far no abuses have been found.

Stealing elections....The New York Times & The Washington Post (bastions of liberal thought) both spent gazillions trying to find evidence of misbehavior....neither was able to find anything that could be evidence of “stealing an election”. In fact, in Ohio the only misbehavior that was found in the last presidential election was in Northern Ohio and it was committed by Democrats.

  7. says:

Not only did Bush lie—he lied multiple times. Why did we go to war? Terrorism? In that case why aren’t we in Russia? Africa? WMD’s? Oh wait....didn’t find those. Oil? AH HA! Another pin-point for American occupation? Ah HA!

  8. Dave says:

Visit http://www.scholarsfor911truth.org and listen to the evidence about what really brought down WTC 1,2,&7. Larry Silverstein and the Bush family are in this up to their ears.

    The terrorists are in Washington.

  9. JoeRo says:

"Democratic presidential candidates carried the state by 60% margins in the last two elections.”

Wouldn’t that mean that Dems carried the election 80% to 20%? Did that really happend? If so, what a landslide! Somebody ought to be investigating those elections!

And Blue Gill, I’m sure you were furious when people told you that impeaching Clinton was “merely wishful thinking by those who were on the losing side.” What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. There are incredibly valid reasons to impeach Bush, the least of which isn’t domestic wiretapping. I don’t care if he abused it or not—the law’s the law, and his failure to report the wiretaps to the FISA court was nothing but laziness. So stop being a Dittohead.

  10. Reginald Van Gleason IV says:

    Amen JoeRo!

There is clear evidence that Bush knowingly lied about WMD’s. Read the Downing Street Memos, the validity of which the Blair government has never disputed.

Theh there is the Plame affair, illegal CIA prisons, torture, wiretaps...the list goes on and on.

    “when Clinton lied nobody died”

    RVGIV

  11. says:

Moved, seconded, and passed by acclamation here.
Sadly, that doesn’t make it so.
Then too, there is the little matter of who replaces Dubya.
    Cheney? ...shudder.
Voters have painted themselves into a corner.
As an anarchist (We don’t vote.), I’m guilt-free.
That still doesn’t help the situation, does it?

  12. Blue Genius says:

"the whole world had this bad intelligence! That doesn’t make it right, but the fact remains decisions were made from bad intelligence. You can’t prosecute from hindsight!”

Yes, they knew they were making stuff up. The downing street memos, Scott Ritter the weapons inspector told them, Joe Wilson told them, so they outed his wife. They wanted to go into Iraq before Bush stole the election in 2000.

“I don’t think most Americans will argue the fact we are at war with terrorists....a foe we have never faced before....new strategies and tactics...however safeguards need to be in place so there are no abuses. So far no abuses have been found.”

According to polls most Americans think Bush should be impeached if he was spying on US citizens. There is evidence that they are doing wide sweeps.

“The New York Times & The Washington Post (bastions of liberal thought) both spent gazillions trying to find evidence of misbehavior....neither was able to find anything that could be evidence of “stealing an election”. In fact, in Ohio the only misbehavior that was found in the last presidential election was in Northern Ohio and it was committed by Democrats.”

Judith Miller was Bush’s mouth piece and beat the drums for war in that so called bastion of liberal thought(NYT). They along with theLA and St. Petersburg Times, Wall Street Journal, the AP, The tribune Company, Palm Beach Post, and CNN spent a million dollars and still missed what happened. That election was stolen twice.

According to the Observer,London NOV 26,2000. “Al Gore would have strolled to victory if the state hadn’t kicked up to 66,000 citizens off the voter registars five months ago as former felons. In fact, not all were ex-cons. Most were just guilty of being African-Americans.”

The Wall Street Journal (Oct. 12, 2001)
“While Florida’s overall rejection rate was just under 3%, the rate was nearly four times as high in pecincts that are predominantly black.”

There is also the US Civil Rights Commission report Voting Irregularities in Florida During the 2000 Presidential Election. There’s a lot more information on this if you really want to know.

I’m sure Jeb had nothing to do with it.

  13. The Dean's a Joke says:

Andrew Warner is a hemmorhoid hitman.

  14. marieS says:

Andrew Warner is the sexiest liberal I know

  15. White Power says:

So there is no liberal media bias because Big Media is corporate. This makes them favor conservatives. Yeah, that Ted Turner is a stauch Repub. Your thesis was more intersting when it was originally written by Eric Alterman. Do you champagne socialists do anything but parrot what you read in The Nation and Mother Jones?

  16. Blue Genius says:

Ted Turner hasn’t owned CNN for a long time and they won’t air anything that offends their advertisers. Corporations pay the bills, that’s why Bill Maher was fired by NBC, his ratings we’re good ,but the advertisers pulled out when he offended them. He was the only one fired because of 9/11.

GE owns NBC and MSNBC, their very liberal and out spoken about the war aren’t they? I don’t read the Nation or Mother Jones. I’ve seen enough of the corporate media and think for myself. Please provide some evidence of this so called “liberal media bias”, you racist prick. It’s a myth!
