Just days after exposing local McCain campaign chair Joe Deter’s personal relationship with Jim Schifrin, author of a hate-laced rag-sheet filled with race-baiting, The Whistleblower is bragging about its relationship with Deters—a smack in the face to anyone expecting better character from those appointed to lead a major political campaign. Meanwhile, Republican candidate for County Commission Greg Hartman easily denounces a publication that calls Cincinnati’s first directly elected African American mayor a “gay darkie.”
~~ Also in Columbus, Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern issued a statement calling upon John McCain to immediately remove former Ohio Treasurer “JayWalking Joe” Deters as Southwest Ohio Chairman of his presidential campaign, because Deters will not repudiate his long-time friendship with WLW Hate Radio Trash Talker Bill Cunningham. It’s a good thing Redfern doesn’t know how often “The JayWalker” has lunch with Beloved Whistleblower Publisher Charles Foster Kane. There’s no end of what Deters could then be accused of because of the company he keeps.
Schifrin (who writes under the name “Charles Foster Kane"), refers to a statement by Chris Redfern. Here’s a key excerpt:
Joe Deters’ appointment is a wink and a nod to the far right. Has John McCain conveniently forgotten that it was Joe Deters who instigated and defended the offensive Bill Cunningham rant that he himself condemned? As per usual, John McCain is trying to have it both ways, trying to appear moderate even as he moves further and further out of the mainstream.
If Ohio Democratic leadership is concerned at Deters’ relationship with Cunningham, then more attention should be paid to this guy Schifrin. Apparently aware of our recent criticisms, Schifrin included this is today’s edition:
~~ And this morning we got a call from NAALCP Chairman Julian Bond apologizing for local NAALCP President SMLP Smithermouth and thanking The Blower for our fair-and-balanced coverage this week, giving us an honorary membership, and saying as a member we could continue to refer to all blacks, Negroes, and African-Americans as “Colored People,” just like his organization does. After all, if the NAALCP didn’t repudiate Jesse Jackson for using the “N-word” and saying he wanted to cut Obama’s nuts off, there’s no way anybody could criticize The Blower for its journalistic jocularity.
In a quick attempt to change the subject, Schifrin characterizes his own racist ramblings as “jocular.” One must wonder why an individual would take such merriment at spewing hateful language daily. But more disconcerting, why won’t Joe Deters distance himself from this joker? When asked if he’d denounce calling our mayor a “gay darkie,” Deters said, “Get that (camera) out of my face.”
Meanwhile, the idea of denouncing anyone who would call our mayor a “gay darkie” comes rather easily to Republican Greg Hartman:
We asked if Hartman would denounce that kind of language, and he said, “Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.” So while Greg Hartman absolutely denounces hate-laced race-baiting, McCain campaign chair Joe Deters is still apparently lunching with the likes of Jim Schifrin, which appears to be a tacit endorsement of his offensive daily rag-sheet.
One must wonder at the people McCain appoints to leadership positions within his campaign.
