Andre Harper’s Campaign Plagiarism
Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Each campaign cycle, bigger money candidates steal ideas and slogans from smaller money candidates.  The belief is that, since a certain candidate is likely to get less media exposure, few will know that the act of plagiarism has taken place.  In a recent direct mailing, Republican Andre Harper steals a line from Justin Jeffre—one he likely got from Justin at a forum in Oakley—and even caters to Green sensibilities through graphic design.  This is nothing short of political plagiarism.

Anyone with basic powers of observation and rudimentary deductive reasoning skills will easily perceive how this “joke” comes directly from the Jeffre campaign.  And as an endorsed Green candidate, it makes perfect sense to come from the Jeffre campaign.  It is a “recycling” joke, and it’s Green Party origins are even more obvious through Harper’s use of Green as a theme for this mailer.

In fact, Harper has been playing color games this whole campaign:  his campaign color is “blue”—a standard color for Democrats—though he has been endorsed by the Republicans.  It is almost as if Harper is trying to hide the specifics of his endorsement.
