  1. CincyJeff says:

Congratulations Justin!  I’m sure that was a real exciting moment for you.  Good job.

  2. says:

Thanks CincyJeff, it certainly was. Even for those that disagree with this consumer advocate politically, you have to respect the fact that he’s dedicated his life to working for the public interest. His work on auto safety alone has helped save the lives of millions of Americans.

  3. White Male says:

You did an excellent job Justin.

Yes, I support the effort to get Ralph Nader on the ballot in Illinois, but for selfish reasons.

Was it Nader or Buchanan who got several thousand votes in Palm Beach County, Florida in the ‘00 election that probably were meant for Al Gore?

  4. Vera Z says:

Justin, Is Ralph Nader still running for president as a Green candidate?  Will he be on the ballot in our area?  I’ve heard nothing about him on the news.  Vera Z.

  5. Josh Krekeler says:

    Awesome, Justin!

Vera, Nader is running as an Independent, although he has many supporters in the Green Party and his policy positions are very close to the Greens’.  Since he is not pursuing the Green nomination, the Greens will likely nominate another candidate at their national convention in July.  At this point, it looks like it will be Cynthia McKinney.  McKinney served in Congress for six terms and became a Green last year.  She’s an impressive candidate; you can learn more about her campaign at http://www.runcynthiarun.org .

For better or worse, as good a candidate as the Greens probably have in McKinney, Nader has much higher name recognition.  Some people think the Greens should still endorse Nader, and others think Nader should endorse McKinney instead of running again himself.  Greens who support McKinney say that she’ll give the party an opportunity to reach out to people of color who don’t vote anymore or who have never voted that we wouldn’t have with Nader.  Many liberal/progressive voters who don’t think Nader should be in the race also don’t think McKinney, or anybody else who might present more genuinely progressive positions than the Democrats, should be running either.

Justin and I will be happy to go over the spoiler issue for the hundredth time for anyone who wants to hear about it again.  For now, I’ll just say that there are good reasons to support political diversity beyond Democrats and Republicans on both the left and the right.  That’s why, even though it will be that much harder for McKinney or Nader to get 5% anywhere if they’re both running, I look forward to seeing both of them on the ballot in Ohio.

    GOOD JOB Justin!!!

My favorite part of this video goes something like:  “I don’t know why I am telling you guys this, but....” rasberry

In re: to Vera Z in comment 4

They are still petitioning to get Nader on the ballot.  The Nader Team will be petitioning in OH sometime in the near future, if that’s what you mean.

  7. says:

White Male, (does your whiteness and your gender really define you?)

Was it Nader or Buchanan who got several thousand votes in Palm Beach County, Florida in the ‘00 election that probably were meant for Al Gore?

It was George a(W)ol Bush-the bumbling Governor from Teas with a horrible record-that got hundreds of thousands of votes that “probably were meant for Gore” thanks to Jeb Bush, Katherine Harris and daddy Bush’s partisan friends on the Supreme Court. (I won’t go into the private partisan companies that secretly count our votes here.)

BBC reporter Greg Palast broke the news that the voter rolls were purged in order to scrub African Americans off the lists so they couldn’t vote. CNN’s analyst Jeffrey Toobin wrote a book called “Too Close To Call” that also said that Gore really won not just the popular vote, but the electoral college.

Scalia’s son Eugene got an appointment in the administration and so did Rehnquist’s daughter after they stepped in and stopped the recount because “it would cause irreparable harm to the petitioner” (Georgie W Bush). Newsweek reported that Saundra Day O’Conner was overheard at a party cursing when the election was first called for Gore. You can also read the Civil Rights Commission report that describes the massive disenfranchisement of voters, particularly in African American districts.

The undemocratic Corporate-Democrats were too busy disenfranchising and harassing independents to stand up for these voters.  Though many Democrats know and admit that the election was stolen, Gore ran a shitty campaign where he couldn’t win his own state or Arkansas and 250,000 Florida Democrats voted for Bush, they still would like to blame Ralph Nader. The Democratic Party doesn’t represent me and they certainly aren’t entitled to our votes. Our votes have to be earned.

Vera Z, yes Ralph will be on the ballot, but we will need help collecting signatures. We expect a challenge from the undemocratic Corporate Democrats. They will try to limit the choices of voters once again.
