CHANGE CINTAS, CHANGE OUR COUNTRY
This fall, we are standing together to make a difference in our country and our communities. That’s why hundreds of union members and community activists will demand change at Cintas this October 14. We will be supporting Cintas workers’ efforts to gain better, safer jobs. Too many Cintas workers have been injured at work, and for the past five years, Cintas has viciously fought workers’ attempts to form a union.
It’s time Cintas heard the voices of workers and the community! Rally to change Cintas! Rally to change our Country!
WHAT: RALLY TO MAKE CINTAS SAFE
WHEN: OCTOBER 14, 2008. 8:30 am
WHERE: 6800 CINTAS BLVD., MASON, OHIO
PARKING: A Shuttle bus will bring people from the METRO PARK & RIDE to the Rally location.
DIRECTIONS: Metro Park and Ride located at the Kings Island Drive and Brandt Connector. (Right off Exit # 24, I-71 Northbound).
Three things to know about Cintas:
* Cintas founder and Chairman Richard Farmer is one of the top fundraisers for the GOP locally and nationally. Cintas executives are raising money for anti-worker candidates and fighting to defeat the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). EFCA gives workers a fair process to form a union. The Wall Street Journal reported that Cintas and Wal-Mart have both tried to affect who their employees vote for in November to promote their corporate agenda.
* Cintas has one of the worst health and safety records in the laundry industry. Since 2003, it has two times more health and safety violations than its three largest competitors combined. Since the death in Tulsa of Cintas worker Eleazar Torres Gomez in March, 2007, state and federal inspectors have cited ten Cintas facilities for violations similar to those that caused this fatality. OSHA most recently cited a Chicago-area laundry in September 2008—one-and-a-half years after the tragedy in Tulsa.
* Workers in Cintas laundries have formed the Coalition of Injured Cintas Workers to stand up for safer jobs. This summer, Coalition members toured to build support from the men and women who wear Cintas uniforms and from communities across the country. This rally will show Cintas how much support workers have!
