Protest Tonight of Kids Helping Kids, Milford

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

This evening an out-of-town group has organized a protest of Kids Helping Kids, in Milford. The group claims that KHK is a cult-like organization that abuses children. For more information, tune in this afternoon to Real Talk Live, where we will hopefully be interviewing a local protester/survivor.

KHK is an offshoot of a quasi-christian cult like charismatic organization. I should know as my step-family and grandparents were part of the “flock”. Controling what people are to think is the name of the game. I think it is a really good idea to keep a public eye on a place like this, and also expose what this type of “straight” indoctrination can do to innocent children and families. Please keep reporting.

I really cannot emphasize enough how the pressure from these types of groups can disturb a child.

    Dear Anthony,
Good to make your acquaintance. I wish you could have been there tonight. We were surprised and very heartened by how many Milford ppl honked, waved and shouted their support for us. One former staffer even delivered about a dozen cups of hot chocolate for us all. Wonders never cease. We were also surprised by how few people turned up for open meeting. We guestimated maybe 20 cars total. That would put them near the breaking point.

Many, many thanks to Derrick and The Dean, not just for the precious air time and driving out to Milford, but for actually having done their homework and knowing what they’re looking at. They get it! I don’t think they’ll be leaving this one alone anytime soon. It’s so tied to so many other topics of interest to the Beacon and Real Talk Live and I get the sense that they’re extremely competent to carry that over to their audience.

Mean time, if yenz local folk would kindly look over these sites and fill the website admins in on any other connections and activities amongst and betwixt those ppl, organizations and agencies mentioned there, they’d be ever so grateful.

Well, I’m one tired hippy tonight. I’ll be catching a cat nap before hitting the road back to Pittsburgh, trying to beat the snow. The rest of our friends will be or have already scattered back to their usual haunts (some of which are just not too far) Wish us luck and we’ll do the same.

Much Love (the One kind, not the ‘ya’ kind)

Glad to be home. Man, am I beat! G’night.

P.S. About the hot chocolate, don’t worry, we gave the first two cups to Hagit Limor and her most adept camera guy while they were there setting up for the live shots.  smile (JK)

Anthony, you hit the nail on the head….these types of programs including KHK can and will disturb a child. My experience in Straight, Inc. is just one example of how a child can be permanently damaged.

Bringing up Straight is an extremely important fact, since KHK uses the exact same ‘treatment’ methods, for which Straight Milford was shut down. KHK uses the same ‘disciplinary’ tactics, same phase structure, same forms of extreme humiliation, degradation, and verbal assault, same rules, same untrained ‘peer staff’ concept, same host home structure, etc. In fact, the only difference between Straight, Inc. and KHK is the name of the program.

Recently, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) CAUSED BY MT TIME IN STRAIGHT 20 years ago. I underwent counseling/therapy over the past few months to recover from my so-called treatment in Straight. Straight damaged me on more levels that I can convey in a single post. But suffice it to say, I am not the only one who suffers from PTSD as a direct result of their time in Straight or Straight copycat programs such as KHK.  Therefore, I am extremely alarmed that KHK is still damaging children to this day. The long-term negative effects of KHK VASTLY outweigh any short-term benefits such as temporary cessation of drug use.
