Phil Heimlich:  The Lonely Walk

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Beacon has long raised serious questions concerning Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich:  from The Three Centurions, to his connections to the cult of Bill Gothard.  So what did Heimlich do when given the chance to clarify for our readers?  He took the lonely walk of shame…

  1. Jim Meeker says:

    BWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

That was outstanding Dean!! Please bring us more like this soon.

    Well done!

  2. says:

Email it to all your friends (and enemies)!

  3. Wow says:

Dean, you are a bad @ss!!!!!!!!

  4. Unimpressed says:

The most dishonest campaigning against David Pepper came last year, from the Dean of Cincinnati. It’s really sad to see you acting like one of your High School students, giddy with all the attention you’re getting for talking back to grownups. A fine bit of douchbaggery.

    Nice pink shirt.

  5. Peter Deane says:

It’s so sad when leaders are frieghtened about who they are or what they truly believe.  Dean, I sent you a letter to another leader in Cincinnati that seems to hide his beliefs behind a costume.

  6. says:

    Bravo, Bravo

  7. Jacqueline Henretta says:

Well done Jason. Turned out great, I can’t stop laughing.

  8. Zagnut says:

Hah hah ha ha! Great clip, Dean. Phil looked like he really wanted to get outta there, fast. He almost ran into that other car. Mister Character beats a hasty retreat. Tee hee.

  9. says:

The most dishonest campaigning against David Pepper came last year, from the Dean of Cincinnati.

Please provide one lie I promoted.  At the time, I preferred the other candidate, and I stated my positions in public.

I’ll tell you this:  all through the mayoral campaign, David was always open, always receptive.  He’d publish on the site, return inquiries, etc.

That says a lot—how David can even get along with people who at one time opposed him.  Wish I could say anything even remotely true of Phil.

  10. Unimpressed says:

Last Fall, David Pepper was a silver spoon racist in bed with 3CDC. Now he’s your best buddy. Why did you conveniently disappear the record of your past douchbaggery at thedeanofcincinnti.com? Why not let the people see for themselves?

It’s telling that the people who think this unoriginal stunt (stolen right out of the decades-old 60 Minutes playbook) is “soooo hilarious” are 20-year-olds you are forced to call peers.

  11. Reality Check says:

Phil looked like he really wanted to get outta there, fast. He almost ran into that other car.

Hunh!? It takes him like 2 minutes to slooooowly walk to his car.

  12. BoBo Brazil says:

Not only doesn’t he answer letters, he can’t talk either!!!! What a great leader!
Too Bad you didn’t mention his brother to see if his hair would stand up straight!
Way to go Jason. I want to go to Westwood Concern and ask him the same questions, but afraid that Melva and Mary would sit on me!

  13. Jacqueline Henretta says:

#10, Actually I think I am the only 20 year old and it wasn’t like “soooo hilarious” it was well done. Not original, well timed and executed. You would be lucky to be called my peer, but as of now you are just a cowardly Heimlich supporter who hides behind a fake name.Even the lowly 20 year old doesn’t do that.
    # 11, As soon as he found out that it was the Dean he turned abruptly, walked to his car and almost hit another car while trying to get away...maybe not a sprint, but a definite hustle.

  14. Zagnut says:

Dean, looks like “Unimpressed” has his panties in a bunch. If he doesn’t like your blog or the demographic of your readers, he sure seems to hover around here a lot and to have kept close tabs on your work.

Golly, who would get so upset about this video clip?

  15. BoBo Brazil says:

    Who is Jacqueline Henrietta?

    Just a woman, that’s who.

  16. HeimlichmeansSecretly says:

Reality Check, why won’t Phil answer some simple questions if he has nothing to hide? He wasn’t as fast as the rabbit, but he did almost hit that car.

Unimpressed, David still has a silverspoon and is inbed with 3CDC. YOU are Lying about the Dean calling Pepper a racist, although many others did and still believe that. I think he’s just clasist, like Phil.

  17. Jacqueline Henretta says:

Just a woman? Just a woman, come on BoBoHow, I know you like guys and all, but I think I have a little more to me than that. Check out my site, feel free to comment.

  18. Unimpressed says:

Jason calls every- and anybody he can a racist. Whiteness studies is his hobby horse. Don’t worry, Jason, I don’t think of you as white.

Only one way to know for sure. Jason should quit supressing the archive. Why wouldn’t he if he has nothing to hide?

  19. Quim says:

Jason My Main Man presents “Phillip & Me”

  20. Q says:

Is Pepper paying you to do this stuff or is it pro-bono?

  21. Matt says:

I don’t know if it matters how quickly he walked to his car.  It would only matter if the sole purpose of the piece was to make him feel uncomfortable. He was uncomfortable, but hid it very well.  It was a slow walk and a calm removing of the jacket.  The other car pulled out behind him- Phil stopped short to avoid an accident.

The real question is why wont Phil sit down and talk with Jason.  These are reasonable questions being asked.  It would seem that he figures that the reporting would be extremely biased- which, lets face it, it would be.

I would like answers to Jasons questions but, unfortunately, Jason probably shouldn’t be the one that asks them.

(Jacqueline, this thread isn’t about you)

  22. says:

I’ve been asking these kinds of questions of Phil long before I had ever written or said the name “David Pepper.”

    Matt,

It is interesting when you say I would have a bias.  Of course I would.  All reporters do.  But film seems the safest place to answer questions.  Then we get to see everything, raw and uncut, so to speak.

I mean, if I had asked about Bill Gothard, and PHil and responded by saying he really respected the interpretation of the Bible that Bill Gothard offered, and that faithful people should really take a look at his work to learn about spirituality—well, it would have thrown me a loop for sure?  What could I have done?  Countered with allegations of abuse, only to have Phil agree that such allegations are bad and he does not support them?

At this point, I could continue to talk about Gothard—but Phil would have set the record straight.

This is just on hypothetical.  But he does not set the record straight.  He does not know what to say.  He probably needs Chris Finney to write is scripts for him.

  23. says:

Golly, who would get so upset about this video clip?

    Republicans.

  24. Matt says:

"Golly, who would get so upset about this video clip”
    Republicans

I don’t think anyone is upset about the video clip.  The question people seem to be asking is ‘was it effective?’ In your other video post someone questioned whether you taunted the subject in order to get a good video response -it seems like a fair question in this instance as well.

BTW- Calling someone a Republican seems a bit below the belt

  25. says:

In all seriousness, the history of my asking questions of Phil has not always been so ridiculous.  How could I have guessed the guy would refuse to address ANYTHING?  Over time, as I kept learning more and kept asking more, it became a bit of a joke, a foregone conclusion that PHil would never respond.

How could I do anything, when finding myself with a camera man and Phil in person, but to try?

  26. Paddison Road Party Animal says:

Chris Finney, we and the state of Ohio are “unimpressed” with you and Phil. Your days of dirty tricks and backroom deals are over, so get used to it. Just because you two had fun administering the oath doesn’t mean we want to see you do it again.

Your allegation that the Dean is “suppressing the archives” and is a racist is bullshit. You’ve got no evidence to support your allegation, otherwise you’d post it. It was Phil Heimlich who sponsored Bill Bennett’s appearance at UC and refused to publicly distance himself from Bennett’s comments which were deemed “racist” in news reports across the country.

You’re just trying to change the subject, which is that Phil Heimlich refuses to answer questions about his record as an elected official. How about some answers from you, Chris, or from your wife, Diane, who became one of the Three Centurions property owners since you, Phil, and Jeff Eichorn tranferred ownership to your wives after the Dean outed your operation. (Hey Dean and Justin, get out the camera and head over to this address, nudge, nudge.)

Chris and the rest of Phil Heimlich’s “armPIT crew,” wake up. The county and the state are going to flip in November. Instead of spending your time posting here, you should start burning files and scrubbing your hard drives because there are going to be investigations.

Over the past year, with minimal resources, the Dean has done a righteous job of exposing Phil Heimlich and his father, the medical quack. Maybe some lives were saved because the Dean helped expose the dangers of the Heimlich maneuver for drowning.

So do us all a favor, Chris. For once, stop humiliating yourself in public with your disgusting smear attempts. Just shut your fucking cakehole.

  27. Matt says:

Actually that’s a very good point.  If I had the camera I’d have fired off the same questions.

  28. anon says:

Dean, Spacetropic just wrote about your video of Philsy. I’m aware you and Brendan have had your disagreements, so this is surely proof that Phil’s a uniter, not a divider....

    Philip, What’s the Frequency?

Say what you like about ‘The Dean’ - the guy is a tenacious example of, uh ... opinionated citizen activist journalism, let’s call it. There’s no better illustration than this clip.

If you’re like me you don’t really understand half of the questions that are lobbed by ‘The Dean’ at his arch-nemesis, Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich (R), who can be seen hurrying towards his car, away from the camera. Nevertheless there’s a rich satisfaction that comes from watching a public official be taken to task with full-blown, Geraldo-like intensity...I’ll leave it for others to critique or defend Phil Heimlich, but I’m glad he knows he’s being watched. Let transparency fall on the just and the unjust alike.

  29. Zagnut says:

Matt above suggests that Jason shouldn’t be the one to ask these questions. But the problem is that neither the Enquirer nor City Beat is serving readers by providing this kind of coverage. The Three Centurions story is a basic conflict of interest that a good daily or alt-weekly would cover. Unfortunately, Cincinnati has lousy media, and bloggers and independent videographers are stepping in to fill the void. This situation is happening all over the country, where people are sick of waiting for the press to do its job and are doing it themselves. Some are doing quite a good job. But if you think you’d get better answers from Phil, nothing is stopping you from acting as a citizen journalist yourself. Make the calls and let us know how it goes.

  30. Jacqueline Henretta says:

You’re right matt, as usual I brought myself into the thread in a negative way and then I decided to defend myself for the fun of it.

  31. says:

I am not a Heimlich supporter, where was this episode filmed?  If Mr. Heimlich was exiting a political function then there might be justification for this Geraldo Rivera style journalism, if not the Dean was aggressing against Mr. Heimlich, denying him his freedom to peacefully enjoy life.

If the Dean treated me the way he did Mr. Heimlich I’d be running to my car camera under arm, Dean and cameraman left bleeding on the side walk.

Obviously Mr. Heimlich is a trusting man, he left his car unlocked, top down, in a public lot, that just doesn’t happen anymore, where did this take place?

  32. says:

This was filmed right after all the politicians finished speaking at the Blue Ash Pro-Israel rally.  Phil was on stage.  The event ended, and we hurried behind the stage.  There was Phil leaving, so I asked if we could get him responding on camera.

    He said yes.

Then, when he realized who I was and what I was asking, he changed his mind and walked away.

  33. anon says:

Trevor: If the Dean treated me the way he did Mr. Heimlich I’d be running to my car camera under arm, Dean and cameraman left bleeding on the side walk.

It’s interesting that Trevor immediately fantasizes that if he were Phil Heimlich, he’d respond to the Dean with violence. That says a lot about Trevor’s concept of democracy. He equates the Dean’s questioning of a public offical with assault.

Trevor and some others here have a million and one reasons why the Dean shouldn’t be asking questions of Phil: his appraoch is wrong, the situation is inappropriate, the Dean’s the wrong person to be asking, yadda yadda yadda.

I’ve never seen so many people who want to make excuses to protect a politician from answering for his record. The Dean approached Phil in a public place after Phil had made a public appearance for political purposes. The Dean was polite and professional. All the questions (with the exception of the Heimlich Institute) were about Phil’s actions taken as a county commissioner. The Dean has previously written countless inquiries to Phil on all the subjects in the video. Phil has refused to answer every one.

Some folks on this blog don’t seem to understand that elected officials have an obligation to answer to their consituents. It’s not optional. They don’t get to opt out because they don’t like the questioner. They answer to the public because we’re their bosses.

So whether you’re a janitor or Carl Lindner Jr., you’re entitled to answers from your elected officials regarding their professional duties. They don’t have to like or respect you. You can be a royal pain in the ass, but they still have to answer.

That’s why this video is so effective. Whether or not you agree with Phil Heimlich politically, you know that his refusing to answer questions about his record is wrong.

  34. Anon says:

if not the Dean was aggressing against Mr. Heimlich, denying him his freedom to peacefully enjoy life.

Whoa! Is this the same Trevor who believed the Metropole fat man dope dealer in the electric chair should be loose on the streets? Is this the same Trevor who stated that sex maniacs & other depraved individuals bent on criminality should be set free? Is this the same Trevor who didn’t care spit about other citizens’ rights to civil freedoms & peaceable enjoyments?

Boy, you talk out both of your mouths - front & back. You need to figure yourself out & get some basic sense.

Dean wasn’t denying Heimlich anything. As I saw it, Dean kept a comfortable distance from Phil & he took a non-aggressive approach to questions that would be asked in any public forum. Hopefully, Phil now understands that the public will hold him accountable right up until the last voting ballots are counted & then some. Thanks for the coverage, Dean. It’s a good vid. Funny, too!

  35. Patriot says:

Why don’t you guys ask Phil the questions? If you think the Dean is biased, just ask them yourself and report the answers for us all here at the Beacon. He’s a public SERVANT that’s running for reelection.

  36. Peter Deane says:

Heimlich said that he’d answer question and when the questions were presented, he didn’t like them and then took off.  He said he would answer them and should have.  Why not.  It’s not like he has anything to hide… or does he?

    Commissioner Heimlich:

Campaign finance disclosures and other public records indicate that you are or were a principal in the Ohio corporations, Three Centurions LLC and Three Centurions Two LLC.

Published reports and public records indicate that Christopher P. Finney, a member of two county committees whose appointment you approved (the Tax Levy Review Committee and the Drake Center Board of Trustees), was your business partner in either or both of Three Centurions companies.

    1. Has Mr. Finney ever had a financial interest in Three Centurions LLC and/or Three Centurions Two LLC? If so, what was his title and relationship to either company?

    2. Did Mr. Finney have any financial interest in your companies during any period of time when he was serving on the Tax Levy Review Committee and/or Drake Center Board of Trustees? If so, please provide those dates.

Thank you for your attention to this matter which is of serious concern to me and your other constituents. I look forward to your reply.

    Sincerely,

    XXXXXXXXXXX

  38. leslie loves david says:

the real question is why was phil out without his bodyguards?

  39. says:

Anon #33, you will take notice I wrote “If Mr. Heimlich was exiting a political function then there might be justification for this Geraldo Rivera style journalism” The word if as used here is asking a condition to be met.  Dean has answered this was filmed immediately after a political function fulfilling the condition.  Mr. Heimlich should have answered the Dean’s questions.  Moreover, any sound, cogent politician would have used this film opportunity to advance his positions dispelling doubts, answering citizens questions.

Learning when this episode occurred justifies Deans questioning, Earlier I believed Dean encountered Mr. Heimlich out in public, a chance meeting, in which case The Dean would be aggressing upon Mr. Heimlich’s personal space.  My concept of democracy allows politicians to lead personal lives.  My justice system allows any aggression to be met with force.

I do not have “a million and one reasons why the Dean shouldn’t be questioning Phil” only one, that has been answered. I also believe “elected officials have an obligation to answer to their constituents.” when appropriate, I allow politicians to lead their own lives.

To Anon #34, two residents of the Metropole were complaining about the appearance of their neighbors, about how neighbors LOOKED, and what they had SEEN.  You will remember my position was they could look away, no aggression was involved.  Sex and drugs are private aspects of life, government should not presume to regulate and legislate this type of behavior.

In the matter at hand I believed Dean had happened upon Mr. Heimlich, if that had been the case Dean was aggressing upon Mr. Heimlichs personal freedom to enjoy life.  Baby Huey in the Hoveround was not aggressing anyone, he too has his right to personal freedom, the same as Mr. Heimlich.

I am not taking out both sides of my mouth, my central axiom is no man or group of men may aggress against the person or property of anyone else.  Had Dean encountered Mr. Heimlich, say, out shopping, dining, or attending church then he would have been aggressing against Mr. Heimlich, as we now know The Dean was justified in his questioning.

  40. Commish says:

Trevor, Heimlich is a public figure and so even if the Dean happened upon him shopping, at church or any public place he is fair game for questions. Asking legitimate questions or even illegitimate questions isn’t aggression and if you had a violent reaction, you’d go to jail and your political career would be over.

The Dean has made every attempt to give Heimlich the chance to answer these questions via email. The Dean has been ignored, so he has every right to track down Phil and ask him these questions on film. If Phil wasn’t such a stupid crook, he’d just answer the questions like any other politician would.

  41. Peter Deane says:

No, the real question is, who is XXXXXXXXXXX.  Could be any citizen in Hamilton County.  Maybe, even your next door neighbor.  Anyway, I just would like to know who this citizen XXXXXXXXXX is.

  42. anon says:

Trevor: as we now know The Dean was justified in his questioning.

Clap hands everyone. Trevor has given his blessing. And that means so, so much.

My concept of democracy allows politicians to lead personal lives.

Anyone who seeks public office does so with the understanding that he or she sacrifices a measure of their privacy. There’s a perfectly simple and professional way to respond to approaches by citizens or reporters on your personal time. The official says, “I’m busy now. Here’s my number. Call me and we’ll set up a time to talk.”

Trevor repeatedly uses the word “aggress” which means “to attack.” If politicians perceive unwanted questions from reporters or constituents as an attack, they’re in the wrong profession.

    Finally, this wowser:

My justice system allows any aggression to be met with force.

How nice that Trevor has his own justice system that allows him to play Rambo. The rest of us would just get charged with assault. Well, jails everywhere are filled with people who followed their own “justice system.”

  43. Anon says:

My justice system allows any aggression to be met with force.

How nice that Trevor has his own justice system that allows him to play Rambo. The rest of us would just get charged with assault. Well, jails everywhere are filled with people who followed their own “justice system.”

It is with warped, violent thinking such as this that we need a jail. You see no loads with this exact same attitude everyday waiting to get thru the metal detectors. Once they’re finished in Court, they’re back on the streets making life miserable for those who are minding their own business.

  44. Tom Pain says:

Peter Deane: Anyway, I just would like to know who this citizen XXXXXXXXXX is.

You could sign and send the letter, Peter. You’re not shy and everyone knows you follow local politics closely. Have at it - the more the merrier!

  45. Why? says:

Phillie doesn’t answer any mail so why should we attempt to write letters to him? He obviously doesn’t speak either? Did he fall prey to his father’s medical experiments and that has disengage his brain? Is he able to have a thought without the help of any of his handlers around?
And think about this- he left his convertible open. Not the theif issue-What about bird poop? I always close mine- who wants to come out of a mtg. in a suit to find that on your suit. Oops- the Dean already caused him to mess his pants!!!!

  46. Tom Pain says:

Phillie doesn’t answer any mail so why should we attempt to write letters to him?

Writing letters like this is important. If Heimlich fails to answer, it builds the case that he is avoiding answering his constituents. Writers can then bring their concerns to mainstream reporters, and ask them to get answers on their behalf. Do it all in writing and post your letters here so you can call them out. You can also attend commission meetings, read your letters into the public record, and ask Heimlich why he hasn’t answered.

There’s no guarantee such tactics will generate results. However, it is guaranteed that doing nothing will generate nothing.

Why does the Dean have to do all the work? Andrew Warner, Jacqueline Henretta, Peter Deane, Brendan Spacetropic, Bearman, Trevor, Patriot, Bobo Brazil, Blue Gill, and the rest of the usual suspects here: Why don’t you write to your elected official and ask him about his business relationship with Chris Finney? This one’s easy, folks.

    I double dare ya.

  47. Peter Deane says:

    OK, it’s a done deal…

I sent it via email and will tell you what I recieve…
If Mr. Heimlich chooses to answer.
    I’ll keep you all informed.

Also, I have no problem with asking these questions at
    the commissioner’s meeting.

I’ve done it before and will do it again.

  48. Tom Pain says:

    While other posters simply squawk,
It’s Peter Deane who walks the talk.

  49. says:

Commish, in my life time I have witnessed decline in politicians, by that I mean general decline in personal attributes and qualities of the persons seeking to represent us.  I believe it is no coincidence the decline parallels sensationalism in reporting the news.  Our society has so degenerated that “a public figure happened upon shopping, at church or any public place is fair game for questions”.

Al Schottelkotte in the early sixties was the first, as I recall, to use lurid details for the purpose of increasing viewers ratings, his 11 o’clock news created superficial interest and curiosity where none existed.  Soon all area stations employed similar quacks, and practiced charlatans were they, sadly this practice worsened over the years. Today the blathersphere, with The Dean at the helm, continues this downward spiral, I’ll refer to this as “The Blathersphere castration” Paul Hackett, after deciding he wished to keep his, has left the political arena.  Too many citizens, intelligent, honorable men, renounce politics, in no small part, due to “the blathersphere castration” fear.

Anon, Previous postings expounder dietier schemed explored the need for a new justice system, I answered by presenting a new justice system, maybe you missed it, I will repost subject justice system:

I believe no man or group of men may aggress against the person or property of anyone else.  I’ll call this the “nonaggression axiom” “Aggression” is defined as the initiation of the use or threat of physical violence against the person or property of anyone else.

If no man may aggress against another; if, in short, everyone has the absolute right to be free from aggression, then this implies the freedom to speak, publish, assemble, and in engage in such victimless crimes as pornography, sexual deviation, and prostitution.

I am not familiar with the Rambo character you cite, was he too aggressed against?  If so then the above justice systems allows force to be met with force.  When the rest of the world meets force with force crime will decrease, my attitude is, you can climb in my window, you can break down my door, but you won’t get past my forty-four, that stops all criminals.  I do not find my thinking warped or violent, merely force meeting force, I, like Paul Hackett, still have mine.
