Melva Gweyn: A Profile in Incoherent Rants

In trying to work towards productive compromise, Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune wrote a letter to Westwood’s favorite loud-mouthed hack, Melva Gweyn. The response? A profile in the incoherent rants that Melva Gweyn tries to pass for political activism. Don’t believe me? Just read the following letter, and look at how quickly she dives headfirst into drivel. This woman can’t even construct a bad sentence!
Dear Mr. Portune
Thank you for your email. Fortunately I DID get the fact straight that you did not want to hold the meeting in Westwood and it is unusual for me not to elaborate on all the details for that I apologize. The nonsense that I saw and experienced concerning the riots in this city and your front and center (along with other associates) support of them often cuts short my ability to fully engage in any lengthy social interaction or trust. We have spent almost every moment of our lives since that event trying to save our neighborhood which you chose after the smoke cleared to move out of for a suburban paradise. Needless to say, had it not been necessary for our meeting and the many meetings of your like minded associates this letter would be unnecessary and this city wouldn’t need the jail. I will gladly send out to everyone my mistake and the reasons for my shortcoming.
Nice to see your fully embracing this issue since I am sure seeing your chosen associates from that turbulent time that you are personally associated with many of the potential occupants of the proposed facility so getting enough money to both operate the jail and to introduce all of the appropriate measures that leave us the best guarantee that those who come into our custody are less likely to commit crimes again once they leave. This may be the most important thing to you but my full support will go to the guy who comes up with the BIGGEST jail and the warden to run it in such a way no one will ever want to come back. Is that you?
“I would encourage us all to first, not fight over the location of a hearing, and second, to create the kind of environment that is conducive to the Commission doing the right thing, the right way and in a way that answers the question for a long time to come."- To this I want to emphasize that we want one of the “location” to be in Westwood because the Westside has been the most impacted and done the most to correct misconceptions due to past wisdom that you fully with enthusiasm participated in an environment joyously anticipating the long time effects and answers we are now dealing with in a FAR more civilized manner than was ever being promoted them.
Having this meeting in Westwood-that is the RIGHT thing.

Wow. She’s starting to sound like other wack jobs in this city. The westside better pick a new spokesperson who can both comprehend someone else’s writing & be able to clearly communicate.
All I get from her rant above is that
A) She doesn’t understand what Todd Portune told her.
B) She probably hates Todd Portune & that is all that matters.

How about the Lunken Airport/Southwest Airlines debacle? Portune was in favor of bringing Southwest to Lunken—in fact, if I recall correctly it was his idea. Then, when he caught flack for it at a community councl meeting, he claimed to be the man who had bravely opposed Southwest flying out of Lunken and openly criticized city officials who’d supported HIS idea.
We know you just looove him, Jason, but get real: They don’t call him Todd Opportune for nothin’.

I guess you mean these three paragraphs:
So, what’s the deal. Portune noted, correctly, that Lunken is hardly used. Then he found exactly how a bunch of citizens felt, then he pushed to make a board.
Is there a problem here? Do you have questions for Portune? I’m confused.

Anonymouse makes some good point and thanks for the link to Korte’s article. I miss that kind of reporting.
As to the right wing Melva Gweyn’s letter, I found it hard to follow but some of her references could be considered insightful, but she may not have known that. I think it inappropriate to include the audio of her speech to who knows who. It was obvious meant to influence us to think negatively about her letter. While her letter was vague, I think that we should have been left to draw our own conclusions.
While I would not want to spend any time with Melva Gweyn, not everything that she says is incorrect or false. Much of her rants are about facts that exist in this city. I am sure that much of what she says is supported by many in this city and with justification. To simply dismiss her views is shortsighted and can only perpetuate the problems in this city.

We are being held hostage by CVG’s expensive fairs, but also by NIMBYs in Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout who were too stupid to realize there was an airport in their neighborhoods when they moved in. According to the City of Cincinnati’s website and common sense, Lunken Airport was opened in 1925 to provide airmail service, shipping, and--wait for it--commercial airline flights! I doubt there are many people around who bought their houses in the neighborhoods Lunken may inconvenience before 1925, but if there are, they haven’t been the ones doing the complaining. It’s SUV-driving, soccer moms and dads. Lunken and Cincinnati need commercial service, and Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout residents need to stop pretending the world revolves around them. Just like Melva Gwenn.

I just listened to that for the first time and I think her words were “predatory and preyed upon” and doesn’t use the words black or poor anywhere in her rant.
I did notice in her letter that she calls-out Portune on his moving away from Westwood! I guess Melva could give up the fight and move-out too.
