Local pub makes national list for “vegan pizza”

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Mac’s Pizza Pub has been recognized by a PETA website called VegCooking as one of the top 10 restaurants in the country for Vegan Pizza.  I’ve had the pleasure of eating vegan pizza at Mac’s, and I daresay that anyone presented with a piece, without being told what it was, would never know the difference!

Here’s what the VegCooking list has to say about Mac’s, which comes in at #7 on the list:

Mac’s Pizza Pub: Cincinnati, Ohio
Mac’s Pizza Pub is a lively college hangout in Cincinnati. When winding down after an exam (or skipping class!), locals enjoy Mac’s vegan pizza, which is topped with fresh veggies and gourmet vegan mozzarella. But veggie students aren’t limited to just pizza at Mac’s—the pub also offers a Boca burger.

I did notice that Portofino Pizza and Deli in Northside recently started offering a vegan pizza, but I have not yet had a chance to try it.  If anyone has a review, please feel free to leave it here.  Maybe Portfofino can give Mac’s a run for their money for the distinction in the next version of this top ten list!

  1. Randy Simes says:

I absolutely love Mac’s.  I hit it up at least 3-4 times a week for drinks, the food (pizza and other appetizers), and sometimes just to hang out.  Great place.

  2. Mac Millan says:

The vegan pizza at Mac’s is delicious - it has organic veggies, and is great even if you aren’t vegan.

Portofino’s says that their vegan pizza is really vegan, but the cheese is stretchy like soy cheese with casein.  I don’t think they’re lying, but I bet their food vendor is lying.

  3. eat your vegans says:

Better taste good. Check out the prices: http://www.macspizzapub.com/MacsMenuBack.pdf

    Clifton Natural Foods Vegan Pizza
Our vegan friendly pizza. Fresh mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, black and green olives topped with gourmet vegan mozzarella cheese. Healthy and delicious!
    Small $16.75 Medium $22.99 Large $24.75

  4. Librariangrrl says:

I agree that Mac’s vegan pizza is fantastic.  Clifton Natural Foods Vegan Pizza is my second choice. Portofino’s, eh, not so much…

  5. Mac Millan says:

I miss Venice Pizza’s vegan pizza.

  6. Bearman says:

Haven’t been there but see vegan items on the menu in places and always wonder this.  Do they completely separate the vegan prep and have a separate ovens??  Otherwise, wouldn’t this negate calling it vegan?

  7. Mac Millan says:

Bearman: No, most restaurants will use clean surfaces and clean hands or gloves in all food preparation for hygienic reasons.  There is also generally little exchange made between dishes in the same oven.

Anyway veganism is more about reducing the demand on the animal industry than obsessing over microscopic “cross-contamination” in the kitchen.  What you are asking about is more likely to concern someone with a dairy allergy than a vegan.
