Justin Jeffre’s city council campaign has quietly earned a diverse and noteworthy collection of endorsements.
Bill Joiner, a Democratic activist who has been a vocal opponent of Jeff Berding, has endorsed Jeffre. “I have been a loyal Democrat for many years because I believe in traditional Democratic values,” explained Joiner. “I recognize that not every Democrat lives up to those values, and there are others who are not Democrats but who, despite their party labels, embrace those Democratic values. I believe Justin Jeffre is one of those persons, and I am happy to endorse his candidacy for City Council.”
Former Democratic mayor of Forest Park and candidate for County Commission, Stephanie Dumas, has endorsed Jeffre, too. “His creativity, energy and willingness to seek innovative solutions makes him an ideal candidate to move Cincinnati forward,” said Dumas. “Justin truly has a heart for the people.”
These come in addition to the support of organizations like the Southwest Ohio Green Party, and CincyLatino.
Other Democrats have started to follow suit. Jenny Edwards , an active Democrat living in the West End, has also endorsed Jeffre. “I’ve had opportunity to get to know Justin working with major Democratic campaigns and issues; in one instance, he was the opposition. Endorsing him is easy as he lives and walks the talk of Democratic values,” said Edwards.
Other area progressives have lined up behind Jeffre, including Georgine Getty and Dan LaBotz.
“As an advocate and media watchdog, Justin Jeffre has always been a friend to those who need him: young people, poor people, people without meaningful access to local government, working families and people hungry for thoughtful information on difficult subjects (and not just glossy sound bites),” said Georgine Getty. “He is not afraid to speak truth to power, in fact, he thrives on it.”
“We need to turn away from the corporate-dominated politics that serve big business but neglect our communities,” said Dan LaBotz. “We need to go green with planned and sustainable development, we need to overcome the city’s legacy of racism and discrimination. We need city politicians who think in terms of the larger political context. For all of these reasons, I urge Cincinnatians to vote for Jeffre for City Council.”
While area PACs are rolling out their endorsements of incumbents and big money candidates—indicating, perhaps, the desire for some kind of exchange-rate to accompany endorsements—Jeffre’s campaign is building upon a network of dedicated activists determined to change the face of Cincinnati’s political landscape.
“I am proud to be supported by such a diverse group of hardworking and dedicated individuals,” said Jeffre.
Other endorsements include celebrity Nick Lachey, UC Historian Mark Lause, and former Green candidate for Ohio Governor and election-rights activist Bob Fitrakis.
Update: Pamela Smitherman has endorsed Justin Jeffre. “I endorse Justin Jeffre because he supports issues that directly impact the average citizen, such as recycling, keeping health clinics open, maintaining the 1.5% budget allotment for human services, and keeping recreation centers and pools open for community use.” said Smitherman. “He does not support the jail tax. He is against corporate welfare which takes resources away that can be used for a larger portion of the city’s population. I suggest people closely compare what we have on council now and what Justin Jeffre has to offer.”

Who are you trying to convince that Jeffre is anything but a fringe fantasy league candidate Dean, all of us or yourself?
What a laughable, underwhelming collection of ‘endorsements’, ranging from a failed former commission candidate (who failed to win even 30% of the vote) to fringe groups like the notorious ‘100 Registered Greens’ to persons and groups that nobody outside of the fringe community has ever heard of before. I had to double check the URL I was on to make sure that I hadn’t inadvertently wondered onto The Onion’s site.
As to Jeffre’s ‘speaking truth to power’, that won’t carry even a tiny little iota of weight with the public until “the champion of the little man” divests himself of his Walmart, GE & Viacom stocks. What a joke.
Here’s the only real question about Messers Jeffre & Patton’s campaigns; Who will lose by the biggest margin?
24 Sep 2007 at 09:15 pm | #
Well, Dean, according to you, if JJ2K07 gets elected then all those people will be recognized by the City of Cincinnati as Political Parties!
Bill Joiner’s a nice guy, but influences no one.
Stephanie is a has-been and also-ran.
Great- poverty pimp Georgine Getty is all up in Jeffre’s shit.
Dan LaBotz is a tiresome CommSymp.
Saw your boy JJ2K07 at Oktoberfest this weekend. Two words: ATKINS DIET.
Rather than inspiring and being surrounded by a Youth Movement, the sweaty-locked 98 Degrees Of Separation From Reality was trailed by 3 guys who looked like they volunteered for Truman’s campaign. Christ, 70 year old David Crowley outpaced those 3.

CincyCapell, I’m proud to be endorsed by Mayor Dumas (too bad her parents couldn’t drop a half a million to buy her that seat), the Green Party, CincyLatino, several authors and longtime activists. I’m sure they’ve all done more than you. You are nothing more than an anonymous coward. Are you the new Yossarian? I wonder what happened to that coward. Why don’t you grow up? You’re a joke!
25 Sep 2007 at 12:30 am | #
Au contraire Jeffre, you are the joke, and so many are laughing at you. You are going to get crushed-decimated-in the election. You don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. You are a side show and an utter fool to 98 degrees, err, percent of the City.
Dumas lost big time, and of course according to you it’s not her fault for being a completely non-viable candidate. No, it’s a conspiracy of the rich & Pepper’s Parents that caused her to lose. As to the rest of your mighty cabal of 4 endorsers, Urbanists II pretty much summed up that motley collection of nobodies up nicely.
As you are rich, what’s going to be your excuse when you lose? Is it going to be a conspiracy against you by ‘The Man’, or perhaps David Pepper’s Parents had something to do with it, or was it a spell cast by Batty Hattie From Cincinnati?
Oh, and speaking of The Rich, when are you going to sell off those Walmart, GE & Viacom stocks anyway, you Champion of the Little Man?
What a complete utter fucking joke you are. The punchline here is that Micheal Captain Queeg Patton is a bigger joke than you are.

At least Justin Jeffre, whether he wins or loses, can put out his own views behind his real name. He contributes something to local political dialogue.
“CincyCapell” has to impersonate and hide behind the identity of a local political activist. This impersonator is a member of the KKK and Democratic Party who knows he’d get banned if he used his real identity, so he has to steal someone else’s name to come off as more legit.

JJ, you mentioned anonymous cowards, so what ever happened to you boy Green Machine? He expended 110% of his credibility shilling for that ‘famous progressive green’ who quickly through GM and his ilk under a bus when he decided not to run. At least GM had the dignity to leave the blogosphere after his infamouse fall. When you lose will you have the good graces to leave the blogosphere, or will you hang about and cry about how you were robbed by some rich candidate?
I bet on the latter. In fact it’s a sure bet.

The truth is that Justin is gaining political credibility, and for those who thought the 2005 run was just a stunt for a TV show, they don’t know what to do.
They don’t know what to think about a guy who would land the cover of CityBeat for his activism, or who would publish a new paper in a city devoid of real news reporting from the major daily paper.
They don’t know what to do, when Justin Jeffre becomes a leader in the movement to overturn the jail tax, when he appears at televised press conferences standing next to Smitherman with the NAACP.
They don’t know what to think when loyal Democrats big inside the party start endorsing a Green candidate. So, they do the only thing they know how—engage the logical fallacy of attacking the person.
His politics are spot on, and maturing. His knowledge of the City’s political landscape is more developed than many who actually sit on City Council.

Jeff Capell is a political activist? If by activist you mean that he trolls local websites using the most anonymous of names - cincyjeff - and refuses to reveal his real identity then I guess I’m a ‘political activist’ too, and so is everyone else posting on this and other blogs.
Jeff Capell seems like the klansman to me; this is the guy who, while president of the OSU College Republicans tried to stop several very modest racial diversity initiatives. Now he tries to be some sort of fork-tongued snake oil salesman by trying to pass himself off as some type of pro-minority activist. Sorry Jeff, your white robes are showing.
Again, “CincyJeff” is the most anonymous of handles. You loose on all counts here.

Speaking of reality shows:
“Justin & Dean Inn Love.”
I can see it now!
25 Sep 2007 at 12:44 pm | #
Au contraire CincyCoward, the most important part of the election process is to have a deep discussion about the direction of our community. It’s to talk about important issues and engage our people in a dialog.
This is something that anonymous corporate Democratic Party hacks like you don’t understand. People like you fail to discuss anything of importance. You simply try to derail threads and assassinate the character of people who at least are trying to make their community better and add to an important dialog that you don’t seem capable of understanding.
Anonymous, nobody has any credibility if they don’t have the courage to stand behind what they say. Do you think you have credibility?
I won’t be leaving the blogosphere and you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be pushing for Campaign Finance Reform from my council seat!
Urbabists II is dead, maybe we can put a web cam on you. “Cure for Insomnia”

Anon 9:12am, are you referring to this episode? Jeff Capell likes to call me a racist and now a clansman, yet when challenged he can’t sight one single remotely racist post that I’ve written. You see, Capell is the worst kind of hypocrite, one who pretends to advocate for the African-American community in order to further his radical COAST agenda, yet his real life activities are those of a right-wing racist. Forked tongue snake oil salesman indeed.
In addition to the above episode, Capell also hosted the notoriously virulent anti-American wacko Dinesh D’Souza at OSU, who spews forth such a nonstop torrent of bigoted anti-American diatribe that it would make David Duke blush. Capell is a real piece of work.
Why does Jeff Capell hate America so much?
25 Sep 2007 at 02:28 pm | #
While you’re on the subject of anonymous coward, JJ2k7, let’s not forget the biggest anonymous coward of all, Jason My Main Man, who goes so far as to code Justin Jeffre’s website so that whenever you type H, A, A, and P in a word, you get “My Main Man.” The crazy bastard has to call himself “The Dean of Cincinnati.” How pathetic.

Pepper didn’t spend squat to beat Dumas.
Wisely, he saved his dollars so he could defeat Heimlich, who was supported by Lindner et al at well over $1,000,000. I’m glad his parents, and thousands of other people (including the Dean), helped defeat the right-wing nut. It’s called fighting fire with fire.
25 Sep 2007 at 05:05 pm | #
Anon #12: Everybody knows who I am. Get over it.
On the issue of Stephanie Dumas: the media’s job should be to cover the candidates, and to let the people decide who is credible. They don’t. Local corporate media grants access only to those who raise tons of money. Elections should be about ideas, and about having serious discussions about our community.
25 Sep 2007 at 09:39 pm | #
This list of endorsements reads like, a “Who’s Who”, of “Who the hell is that”? Very impressive.
25 Sep 2007 at 09:41 pm | #
Pepper had just spent $1.2 million to lose the Mayor’s race. (No wonder Lindner backed Heimlich. Lindner blew over $15 million on Pepper’s failed Mayoral campaign.)
Pepper has name recognition from his daddy and the corporate rolodex. Mayor Dumas was shut out of the race by the white media because of her race, sex and class. The Enquirer’s racism, classism and sexism is blatant. She was black-listed and up against a corporate media blackout.
The corporate class has privatized our elections and David Pepper “wisely” and passionately shills for his paymasters.
I’m glad Pepper’s parents can drop a half a million to buy him that seat too. Either way Lindner got a shill for the jail. You’re fighting evil with a lesser evil. Pepper’s lined up with Lindner and Leis you right-nut-wing dupe.

This is too funny, Post #11 responding to himself (Post #8) under a different name. Those antics are all-too typical for this racist impersonator, contributing nothing to the discussion but attacks on other posters. I may disagree with Justin on the majority of issues, but I respect that he’s always contributing ideas to the local conversation. In particular I wish he’d apply as much scrutiny to social welfare spending as he does to corporate welfare spending, but at least I know with Justin that I could have a respectful conversation with him on that topic and many others.
I’m not sure where Bertie Wooster the racist Democratic impersonator is going with his frequent trips back to the Ohio State College Republicans in the 1990’s. Once again, I’ve caught Bertie posting links that he claims proves his allegations, but in fact disputes them. I guess he figures nobody ever clicks them to check out the stories for themselves. In his first link which he claims will prove racism, not only Jeff Capell but every single person quoted in the article expressed support for diversity, but also had concerns about how the plans were being implemented. In the 2nd link, a letter to the editor, maybe Bertie could quote what he felt was racist because the only “race” reference in that letter was a defense of a minority speaker and his right to be heard. Bertie is nothing if not consistent in his opposition to letting minorities speak their minds.
In that regard, Bertie Wooster is an excellent representative of the Portune/Pepper/Leis point of view. His refusal to engage in the issues, instead engaging in non-stop character assassinations against anyone who disagrees with him, exemplifies the manner in which Portune/Pepper/Leis have conducted themselves over the past few months. Keep it up. I think Bertie’s behavior is doing more here to generate opposition to the Sales Tax hike than my own posts are.
26 Sep 2007 at 09:49 am | #
Nice try to cover your ass Jeff Capell, but anyone who clicks on the link and reads the stories can plainly see who and what you are; a racist right-wing wacko who hates American values.
I see that you are still unable to provide proof of alleged ‘racist’ remarks that I’ve made. Site just one. You can’t, because I’ve never made any. You are trying to sell yourself off as some kind of MLK-like figure, when you’re really no more than David Duke, after the plastic surgery. Thanks t the Internet you can’t hide from your past, it’s out there haunting your every move.
I see that you have stopped blogging while on the clock at your taxpayer funded County job (I guess that you couldn’t cut it in the private sector, how typically hypocritical of you and your COAST agenda). Are you feeling some pressure? Si knows where you work, and your republican crony’s can’t save you anymore.

CincyJeff, I believe that the social services are watched very closely. They certainly are watched closely compared to the massive amounts of corporate welfare that get doled out under the radar screen on a regular basis. The lazy lap dogs in the corporate media fail to catch most of these hand outs for the favored few. (Many of whom are there big advertisers.)
For instance, no corporate media outlet caught the fact that 40 years of our Fountain Square garage revenue was given away to 3CDC for next to nothing. The Enquirer and politicians like John Cranley keep parroting this as such a great deal because “it only cost us $4 million dollars.” This is a big fat lie!
Michael Moely from Channel 5 did catch on (hat tip) many months later (he was new to town) and they did a report where they still low balled the number at $33 million from the parking fund. This was better than anyone else had done so far, but still way off of the mark. He told me they “had to give 3CDC the benefit of the doubt.”
I appreciated him raising the issue, but the media shouldn’t be giving 3CDC and those with power any benefit of the doubt. There job as the fourth estate is to check power, ask the tough questions and always be skeptical.
They all get an F, especially Margaret Buchanan’s Enquirer because they failed to disclose the fact that she is on the board of 3CDC (hat tip to the Dean) in most of their glowing reviews of 3CDCs unpopular plans.
Michael Earl Patton-our resident citizen watchdog-happened to stumble upon the recent $30 million dollar give away to Corporex. Council likes to slide these things through when nobody’s looking and I don’t think it’s very hard for them to do.
To compare the small amount of funding that goes to our non-profit programs-that leverage federal dollars and private donations-to the massive amounts of corporate hand outs, and give always to powerful for profit corporations is a big mistake. This comparison hardly passes the giggle test in my opinion.
Having said that, I believe we should keep a watchful eye on where all our public funds are going. I just once again feel that these programs are already being watched closely by well respected citizens, not tomention people like yourself and COAST.
I think these are mostly great programs that put people first with a very small percentage of our tax dollars. It’s sometimes hard to measure what our return on investment in people is, but they are great, very real and necessary in a civilized society.
Especially in a society with such a great disparity in wealth and with so much concentrated poverty. Instead of manufacturing criminals and dehumanizing people we should try to manufacture productive citizens by restoring them, giving them opportunities to succeed and treating them humanely because we are all just people.
The criminal injustice system in the land of the free has locked up 2.2 million of our own people. More than any other nation on the planet. It is a huge waste of money and has failed to make us safer and has in fact made us less safe.
26 Sep 2007 at 01:03 pm | #
I will say that while CincyJeff and I may disagree on many of the issues, we can at least have a grown up conversation about things.
CincyCoward and his other personality Bertie Wooster (they share half a brain) are nothing more than worthless trolls that only derail grown up conversations and try to assassinate other people’s characters because they have none of their own. The blogosphere would be so much more productive if it weren’t for people like them and their useless drivel. Shame on you cowards!
We’re going to beat your friend Leis’ jail tax!!!
26 Sep 2007 at 03:53 pm | #
JJ your side stands a chance of defeating the jail issue, but you don’t have a chance in hell of getting elected to counsil. You are a nothing but a clown to most people in Cincinnati. You are a joke.
26 Sep 2007 at 03:56 pm | #
i will take that bet since you will never have a council seat
26 Sep 2007 at 04:05 pm | #
Rick Brockelmann, if your going to call someone a clown and a joke, you might want to learn how to spell “counsil” or people might think you’re a clown, a joke and fucking moron.

Watch out everyone, the Grammer Gestapo are here. Correct this Herr Oberführer: Yuck Fou.
27 Sep 2007 at 11:30 am | #
Yes, I’m sure Pam Smitherman typed that. Jusin being endorsed by the wife of one of Cincinnati’s biggest clowns will certainly push him into the winner’s circle.
You might want to keep that “quiet endorsement” a little quieter.

Nelson said the initiatives are more than OSU has had before and the university should encourage this direction. He said OSU has to do more than just talk; it has a responsibility to maintain programs and take minority issues seriously.
