  1. Brendan says:

Zowie, a paragraph or two about Gothard in an article about the third-place candidate.  Goodness me, how relevant can the Beacon get?  Thanks holding down the position of lower-tier, back-bench muckrakers in American politics.

  2. says:

Who knows better?  Joe Conason, best-selling political journalist, or Brendan?

    Hmmm… tough choice…

  3. Green-Eyed Monster says:

Ooh, could it be that wittle Brendan - owner of a dreary, navel-gazing blog that no one reads because it’s uber-boring - is jealous?

Brendan, next time Joe Conason links to your blog - or anytime you break a story, ANY story - let us know.

  4. says:

Brendan, I find your commentary to be very shallow. What idiots really think they are voting for Bill Clinton? Sure, Hillary and her husband are different people and therefore must think differently, but they do share the same pollsters, advisors and agenda.

Obviously Hillary would be the President with constitutional authority, but you fail to explain why this would be a bad arrangement. You say that if people don’t understand why they are “naive”. Then you make one of the most naive statements I’ve read in a long time.

Repeat after me: It won’t be the end of the world - and the same is true if a Republican does miraculously pull off a win. The country will survive, and ultimately prosper, either way.

Really? The country is going to prosper either way? It looks to me like the country is in decline along with the value of the dollar. What about the recession? The living standards for average Americans continue to decline. The price of education, health care and energy are sky rocketing. The sub-prime mortgage and housing bubble is just beginning to burst and the country is stuck in a costly bipartisan quagmire with no end in sight.

You also fail to explain why Edwards would be even “more terrible” than Hillary or why they would be worse than Republicans like Romney, McCain or Huckabee. All you’ve really offered is rants about the horse race instead of any meaningful analysis about the differences between the candidate’s policies, records and positions.

The GOP race is still pretty wide open so being in third place at this point means he still has a real shot. His little known Gothard connection may be of interest to people who are hooked on the coverage and want to look more closely at a potential Presidential or VP candidate.

If the Beacon is holding down the position of lower-tier, back-bench muckrakers in American politics, I wonder what position you think your Spacetropic blog is holding down.

I can’t read the article, don’t have a salon account. Post the text please?

I’ve been posting links back to the Beacon about the Huckabee/Gothard connection all over the liberal blogosphere. It’s about time it got picked up.
