For years, Dr. John C. Willke has endorsed Phil Heimlich for his various political offices. But now, it looks like Willke, a retired family practice doctor and former chair of the National Right to Life Committee, has jumped ship and given an endorsement to Jean Schmidt for Ohio’s 2nd congressional district.
Phil’s campaign page still features a 2001 endorsement from Willke:
In today’s political world it is rare to find someone who has the courage and commitment to fight for the values we share. It is difficult to find an elected official who will state that he is Pro-Life and then actually stand up for the rights of the unborn. Phil Heimlich is one of these people. ...Phil Heimlich has consistently fought for the Pro-Life cause.
- Dr. John C. Willke, June 27, 2001
Compare that to Willke’s current position:
There is hardly much difference in the rhetoric here, so one must wonder at Willke’s abrupt switch of loyalties. And further, one must wonder if Phil will continue to host Willke’s 2001 statements on his 2008 campaign page, especially since Willke has endorsed an opponent.
