Last week the Green Party made history when it nominated the first all-women-of-color presidential ticket in US history. As reported here, former Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who was the first African American woman elected to Congress in Georgia, won the Green Party’s nomination last Monday. She named longtime community organizer, journalist and former director of the Hip Hop Caucus, Rosa Clemente, as her running mate earlier this month.

Certainly great news! Cynthia McKinney is the true progressive choice in this election. In order to save space on this site, I just posted an entry on my blog about why Obama is not the “true progressive” choice in this election like many of his supporters believe that he is. Check it out if you are interested:

Hopefully the Greens can get 5% this election!

@Chris - I agree that the whole FISA/Obama deal really disappointed me in the man. McCain of course is no better, but we knew that already.

so, what’s the reason for Cynthia’s run in with the capitol police?

Maybe it’s just me, but you would think that media would document this historical! However, most people don’t even know who McKinney is, let alone that she is an endorsed, black, woman running for President.

Maybe it is just you…lots of people know who she is, and are dumbfounded that the Green Party would flush down any legitimacy they have by nominating an unelectable, racebaiting nutjob. Historical, indeed.

In re: to Comment 6—
Being that I was standing at a McKinney petition table over the Fourth of July weekend for a brief period of time, and being that not one person that I spoke with readily knew who she was… I’m going to deduce that the majority, if not “most”, of the voting population really has NO CLUE who the woman is, or that she is a presidential candidate that is currently endorsed by the Green Party.
To be honest with you—most people I have spoken with on this topic, and I’m going to say that’s a pretty large number, since I do circulate petitions when I have a free moment, have no idea anyone is running outside of Obama and McCain.
I do not know what your definition of “alot” is, but the fact that the general public does not know who is running for president and what their voting options are outside of “the lesser of two evils” is more than a bit distubing to me!
You have every right to your opinion. If you do not like her, do not vote for her—but certainly, the public deserves to know that there are other options available to them besides McCain and Obama.
I mean, COME ON! We call this a democracy? How free is your choice when you only see the opportunity to vote for the “lesser of two evils”!?!?
