Is Jeff Berding not out for the advancement of his politcal career? What politician isn’t advancing their politcal career? Todd Portune and David Pepper certainly are.

Smitherman doesn’t represent big business or the status quo. The NAACP is for the advancement of civil rights dumb ass. Oh well, I guess it isn’t as racist as your arab cartoon.

Yossarian...I have nothing to say.  I usually have some witty retort to your “witty” criticism so thanks.  I am sure next week, when I am no longer on vacation and am back to 5 minute drawings you can rag on me for coloring outside the lines again. ha ha

You are absolutely right.  Therefore, why didn’t it upset you when I inferred Pepper or Heimlich was being opportunistic.

Not sure what these comments stem from.  The first drawing is actually favorable to Smitherman.

Oh well, I guess it isn’t as racist as your arab cartoon.

Again I don’t know how this is racist, except that a black man is the subject when you don’t seem to have the problems when I made a white politician the subject of a cartoon.  There is no negative implications about the NAACP or its members in either of the above.

As to the “Arab” cartoon, I can only assume you mean this one

I can’t say it any better than I did then.  “...please don’t assume that because this illustration attacks Hezbollah that it that in turn it is an attack on all Arabs in general or the people of Lebanon.  I personally can see the difference...can you?”

I was talking about the cartoon with the arab that had a bomb in their head wrap. This cartoon shows your bias in that Israel illegally bombed a country. They killed babies with cluster bombs. US made cluster bombs that are still lying around all over the place endangering mostly children.

The only time that you acknowledge the death of children is when it happens from the weaker side. You refuse to notice or draw the crimes of Israel.

Maybe it’s just that your cartoon of Smitherman looks so bad. You usually draw people pretty well. In this one you made him look like a monster and are calling him a opportunist. Smitherman is doing an awful lot of volunteer work for the community and this charge could be leveled against every politician but it’s not, it’s only aimed at Smitherman who deserves it least of all.

I see your point Dean. I guess it was just how he made Smitherman look. Bearman usually does a better job with cartoons. I still think that one cartoon was racist though. Not the one he linked too. I can’t find it.

Damn I thought I did a better job with Smitherman on this one than usually.  I have said before I am not the best cartoonist in the world (or even on my block) so I have to apologize for how it turned out.  It was the best I could do.  I wasn’t intentially trying to make him look weird...that is just what I can do with my limited skills.

As for the cartoon you mentioned about a bomb in a head wrap...I am sorry but I never drew anything like that so not sure where you saw it but it wasn’t from me.

To answer your question Bearman,
The first cartoon is most accurate. Heading a volunteer organization is one way to launch a political career but in Smitherman’s case, he was a politician before he took on the volunteer work. I think the latter is what has elevated him as a leader in the greater community (not just among African-Americans) and has enabled him to brilliantly maneuver around the sinkholes of Cincinnati politics. It’s ironic when you think of how losing in the last council race has been incredibly good for his career.

the first cartoon is definitely Mr. Smitherman, Bearman.... good job.... I have a feeling the majority of whyt voters in klancinnati would prefer the latter cartoon… LOLOL
