David Pepper joins Battle of the Blogs for the Freestore Foodbank!

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper has thrown his hat into the ring for the the historic and inaugural Battle of the Blogs charity event this holiday season.  As reported earlier, this year will benefit the Freestore Foodbank—and The Cincinnati Beacon has taken a commanding lead on the donations front.  Who will get on board next with the blog battle?  Maybe Alex Triantafilou at the Hamilton County GOP blog?  How about CityBeat?  Who would you like to see jump into the ring?

Pepper himself enjoyed shopping via the online food drive.  He wrote on his blog, “For those willing to give even a little, it’s very easy. I myself just purchased a bag of food for a family of four, and topped it off with green beans, potatoes and apples.”

Now that we have a real contender in this ring (since the yokels at the Cincinnati Blog never stepped up to fulfill their own challenge), we need to ramp things up here at The Cincinnati Beacon.  So, if you haven’t already, consider making a donation!

I noticed that Pepper gave $41.72.  I have no idea why he would pick a strange denomination like that.  Maybe he wants to be able to prove which donations are from his blog.  Great idea!  So if you give, throw a few oddball cents on the end so we can prove the donation came from a Beacon reader!  We must not let Pepper defeat us!

For your convenience, here is the online shop:

Gift early and often!  Defeat Pepper!

I would like to see Alex Tryingtofoolya blog’s come on board. He has a good blog, although it is NOT fair and balanced. Let me repeat that…it’s not fair and balanced.

    Way to go Pepper.

    Bearman—

The Cincinnati Beacon is not bias. My blog citizensagainstjoedeters.blogspot.com is certainly not biased.

    OK point taken.

I’ve got $285 from my other strand—and another $20 just donated.  That takes us to $305.  Keep it coming!  Great work!

And the Cincinnati Blog has finally stepped up its game:

Also, the only criteria I’m using when I say “good” blog is that he post regularly, he’s good at spreading hate (see Ayer’s comments) and he’s good at blocking opposing views. So no, it’s not informative like the Beacon… his writing is mediocre at best. But the blog is good at being bad! It’s mostly current and let’s us know what those sneaky B’s are up too.

  7. Bearman says:

Ok, I am stepping up to the challenge.

As well as posting them on the Beacon, I started archiving my cartoons at bearmancartoons.wordpress.com.  I am committing that the first 10 local blogs to add my site to their blog roll I will donate $20 each.  If you add it, send me an email and let me know:  bearmancartoons (AT) yahoo.com

Guess I should make the link easier to access

Finally stepped up our game?  We’re the ones that started the whole thing!  grin

You definitely get props for the idea, but we’re the ones that kicked it off (that’s why we’re totally kicking your asses) and we’re going to triumphantly finish it.

(What fun would a battle of the blogs be without a little trash talk?)

CityBeat has decided they would like to lose to us, too:

Great, I think I’ll enjoy beating them even more than Pepper and the cincinnatiblog!

Freedom Fighters, imagine if we start losing to another blog. He’ll be up all night. (Of course that’s not going to happen!)

My friend had some clothes he wanted to drop off at the Salvation Army on the other side of town. I told him that the Freestore Foodbank also takes clothing etc. and they were closer.

I went with him and he didn’t get a receipt. I don’t know if our contest includes clothing or not, but there are definitely people who could use some clothes this winter so don’t forget to clean out your closets and give those clothes you’ve grown out of or just don’t wear anymore away to people who can use them.

  18. JFD says:

Why am I getting spam from the Beacon?

  19. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

You would be one to call helping local families in need “spam.”

Justin, our total is now $405 plus a bag of clothes.

  20. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

Let’s make that OVER $425 plus a bag of clothes.  (I just got word of a donation, but not an amount.)  Awesome!  Keep up the GREAT work everyone!  Tell your friends!
