Cincinnati NAACP Announces Red Light Cameras will be on November 4 Ballot
Wednesday, August 06, 2008

Posted by Media Release

The NAACP and We Demand a Vote announced today that the Board of Elections notified the groups that they have the signatures needed to place Red Light Cameras on the Ballot November 4, 2008.  All groups thank the dedicated volunteers who gave the hundreds of hours needed to collect signatures throughout the summer to place the issue on the ballot.

The groups turned in 11,800 signatures and 6,300 were valid.

Red Light Cameras were introduced by Vice Mayor David Crowley.  The motion was introduced to generate $1 million dollars to balance the 2007/2008 city budget on revenue from Red Light Cameras.  Both organizations thank Mayor Mark Mallory for his leadership in temporarily stopping the installation of Red Light Cameras in our city between today, August 6, 2008 - November 4, 2008.  Smitherman says, “The petition for Red Light Cameras in Cincinnati, Ohio is a check and balance in our democratic society.  The people of Cincinnati will have the final veto on November 4, 2008.”
