Cincinnati’s best newspaper has a great article on the case against 3CDC and their co-conspirators. According to a lawsuit filed by Metropole tenants 3CDC and other defendants violated the Federal Housing Act and have used strong arm tactics to racially segregate downtown Cincinnati.

Metropole Lawsuit: Not So Fast, 3CDC
Thursday, August 26, 2010

Donald Caster has a great article on the Metropole Tenants Associations lawsuit in federal court seeking to halt the efforts of 3CDC and others to turn the Metropole into a luxury hotel. The tenants are now represented by preeminent Cincinnati civil rights attorney and they’ve filed a lawsuit that is compelling. It’s an interesting explanation of the allegations in the lawsuit that could be a major impediment to 3CDC’s plans.

Guest article by Noble Maseru, Ph.D., MPH, Health Commissioner, Board of Health, City of Cincinnati

With the recent passage of healthcare reform, a focus throughout the country has been on increasing people’s access to affordable primary health care. Many of these new patients will find quality care at community health centers. Community health centers now serve 20 million people in America in 7,500 communities, including Cincinnati Health Department (CHD) Health Centers that serve more than 35,000 patients annually at six primary care and two dental sites. There are also 6 private non profit health centers located in Hamilton County providing healthcare services.

Gay marriage and the establishment clause
Saturday, August 07, 2010

Now that people are in a buzz over the repeal of California’s Proposition 8, once again I’m confused why the issue of gay marriage is not covered under the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause.  Since banning gay marriages seems to have a religious basis—and further since such bans prefer certain religious traditions over others—why isn’t this struck down as unconstitutional in this regard?

Cincinnati NAACP: City Pension is Pushing Cincinnati into Bankruptcy
Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Local NAACP President Christopher Smitherman has warned citizens about the city’s retirement fund crisis for years saying the city is misrepresenting the magnitude of the crisis. “The city continues to use the projected rate of return of 8% to explain to the public when the pension will run out of money. If the city were to use the real rate of return of 3% to 4% the magnitude of the pension plan becomes very clear to the tax payer”, he said.

Letters with the Cincinnati Tea Party
Friday, July 23, 2010

It hit me when reading this article at CityBeat:  Mike Wilson thinks the Tea Party has been wronged because a cartoon depicted members wearing KKK robes.  He has even said the Democrats should apologize.  But did the Cincinnati Tea Party ever apologize when Joe the Plumber came to town and said we should start shooting Mexicans?  Check out my letters with the Tea Party!

“A bunch of stupid Atheists”
Saturday, July 17, 2010

If you are interested in the dynamic between Atheists and at least one hard-core Christian, then this exchange of letters is a hilarious must-read!  Nothing like watching a kind-hearted Atheist get into it with a judgmental (and therefore hypocritical) Christian—in this case one who killed a man with her evil Jesus death stare!

Hey Fox News!  ACORN has been exonerated - again!
Friday, June 18, 2010

Greetings from the West Coast! Since moving out of Cincinnati to Los Angeles a few months ago, the whirlwind of activity has led to a great lull of posting activity on my part. I have no immediate timetable for a more regular posting schedule, but I did want to pass along this item that has been overlooked by the corporate media.

City of Cincinnati still pushing for the sale of Water Works
Friday, June 11, 2010

The unaccountable City Manager is moving forward with his plan to sell our Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW). The public will get a vote on the issue thanks to the NAACP’s ballot drive. The sale of GCWW could create more urban sprawl and less accountability to our citizens.

Friday, June 04, 2010

Citizens of Cincinnati will see new taxes and layoffs to help fill the budget gap. This is happening at a time when there’s a massive hole in the retirement system that must also be filled. The city will most likely have to sell off assets to fill the gap.

Friday, May 28, 2010

The BAR’s Glen Ford said, “It was like pulling teeth, but Tea Party star Rand Paul finally blurted out his core, racist ideology in front of national TV cameras.  Property rights trump Black rights, every time. “White supremacy is the connective link that holds the ‘Tea Party’ together - that, and relentless media coverage.”

25 Years Ago Philly Police Bombed MOVE Headquarters Killing 11, Destroying 65 Homes
Thursday, May 13, 2010

According to this, 25 years ago a police helicopter bombed the headquarters of a radical group known as MOVE in Philly. The fire from the attack killed six adults and five children and destroyed sixty-five homes. Despite two grand jury investigations and a commission finding that top officials were grossly negligent, no one from city government was criminally charged. MOVE was a Philadelphia-based radical movement that was dedicated to black liberation and a back-to-nature lifestyle.

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

If you didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Donald Spencer you should read about his life and work here. Donald was perhaps Cincinnati’s greatest example of a citizen activist. As local NAACP President Chirstopher Smitherman put it, “He was a beacon”. Our deepest condolences go out to Marian and their entire family.

Two Cincinnatians get national press for dumb arguments
Monday, May 03, 2010

Congrats to David Krikorian for becoming Keith Olberman’s Worst Person in the World. Krikorian allegedly denigrated Surya Yalamanchili’s name. Also Ken Blackwell-who actually may be the worst person in the world because of his 2004 election debacle-makes an argument that Obama is creating an imperial Presidency which Jon Stewart obliterates by pointing out that he hasn’t done anything that Bush didn’t do.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Congressman Steve Driehaus took a “bold” stand with Bart Stupak to push anti-abortion language into the healthcare reform bill—but it was completely unnecessary, and it had been proven so in the media.  That didn’t stop him!  Check out our original video content!

Was the Tea Party’s big win really a huge loss?
Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Much ado was made about the election of Scott Brown to the Senate seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy. While the GOP and the corporate media hyped it as a major political shift and a huge victory for the Tea “Party” the reality is that Brown never identified with the Tea Party and he still isn’t representing them. He’s actually one of the most moderate Republicans around. So what have they accomplished?
