Bill Ayers interview Part II
Friday, November 28, 2008 |
A few years ago I saw a documentary on the Weather Underground. I was surprised that this radical part of the anti-war movement wasn’t talked about much-that is until the last election where up until a few weeks ago Ayers was central to Republican attacks on Obama. I guess that’s why I find this interview interesting.

Green Friday! A new twist for “Buy Nothing Day” and “Black Friday”
Sunday, November 23, 2008 |
Each year, I usually throw up a meager post to encourage people to participate in ”Buy Nothing Day.” However, facing the current economic crisis has changed my thinking about Buy Nothing Day, though I agree with its principles. So I’m thinking its time to promote an alternative to Buy Nothing Day—specifically a day based on buying Earth friendly products from local businesses.

Cincinnati NAACP President shares update on Cincinnati Retirement Plan
Monday, November 17, 2008 |
Dear Membership and Community,
Please take the time to review a video of President Smitherman talking about the Cincinnati Retirement Plan. The Cincinnati Enquirer started to come clean today with city tax payers with an editorial that states “ The system is clearly unsustainable”. This is an editorial in today’s paper. The problem is that the Enquirer failed to mention that Councilmembers Smitherman and Monzel held an emergency hearing in October 2004 warning the city for its failure in managing the city workers pension.

Michelle Obama’s Biographer on Nation’s First African American First Lady
Thursday, November 13, 2008 |
Here’s an interesting interview with Washington Post writer Liza Mundy, author of the new unauthorized biography Michelle. Michelle Obama has been more scrutinized than the spouse of any other presidential candidate. The focus has usually been on trivial things like her wardrobe, but this is the first time I’ve seen anything more in-depth about her personal history. It’s worth a quick read.

Enquirer plays into CincyDems’ backroom dealings?
Friday, November 07, 2008 |
Last month, we reported on some alleged backroom deals from the local Democratic Party concerning City Hall. Yesterday, the Enquirer published a story that shows how the wheels may be turning to actualize this plan, perhaps showcasing how the politicos use local media to acculturate the voters to their hidden wills.

The Trail of Broken Promises
Monday, November 03, 2008 |
By MATT GONZALEZ
Watching the Democrats in the final weeks of the presidential election has been a lesson in revisionist history. While they lament the terrible crimes perpetrated against the American people by George Bush and vow to keep fighting for our rights, they conveniently gloss over the fact that they have no standing to make such claims. Indeed, the Democrats, including Senator Barack Obama, have actually voted with President Bush’s agenda, making them complicit in his acts, not valiant opponents defending our liberties.

LiberalOasis Busts Enquirer Mistake
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 |
A few days ago, LiberalOasis caught the Enquirer printing erroneous information in its endorsement of John McCain. Based on Gannett’s newsroom ethics policies, which allegedly value ”Correcting Errors,” the Enquirer needs to publish a printed correction as well as an update to its online endorsement.

COAST: Sarah Palin is the Future of the Party
Saturday, October 25, 2008 |
A few weeks ago, COAST sent out a list of endorsements, but the list did not garner media attention. Among the candidates, COAST said they reluctantly endorsed McCain for president, but then went on to call Sarah Palin “A new principled future for the GOP.” I was surprised by the line, and asked COAST to elaborate on characterizing Sarah Palin as the future of the Republican Party.

John McCain, Sarah Palin, and Their Raging Supporters
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 |
As I continue to watch the odd twists and turns of the election season, I cannot help but be somewhat taken aback at the level of anger that is being shown by the supporters of John McCain and Sarah Palin. There have been outbursts during some of the speeches made by McCain and Palin calling Barack Obama a “terrorist” and the Secret Service is investigating whether a supporter shouted out “Kill Him” during a speech given by Sarah Palin in Florida. This level of anger from supporters has been invigorated ever since the McCain campaign has decided that the “gloves are coming off” in the remaining days before the election.

Portune’s Deal, Unopposed Republican Judges, and the Case for Proportional Representation
Friday, October 10, 2008 |
Just take a look at how many Republican judges are unopposed in Hamilton County. In a year with record-high voter registration in the Black community and tons of Democratic voters likely to be casting ballots, the Hamilton County Democratic Party couldn’t find any candidates to oppose all these judges. Isn’t that extraordinary? Or, isn’t it indicative of the kind of back-room deals people like Todd Portune engaged, securing his own employment while leaving people like Joe Deters unopposed. Though Proportional Representation would not affect judicial races, these deals by established Democrats show the need for implementing the system here in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Progressives on the Bailout
Saturday, October 04, 2008 |
When we posted a press statement from COAST opposing the bailout, a progressive commenter blasted them for their position. When asked how that same progressive would address Dan LaBotz, who also spoke against the bailout, I was called a “cheap whore.” Anyway, though it took me a bit longer than I would have liked, here is Dan LaBotz (from Cincinnati Progressive Action) and other progressives speaking at Fountain Square. Enjoy!

The Deadly Intersections, Revealed!
Saturday, September 27, 2008 |
The Cincinnati Beacon has received data on Cincinnati’s top five intersections for collisions. Presumably, these are the very dangerous intersections posing such a public safety threat, that we need to install red-light cameras to avoid imminent death. We do not have any data on how many people die per year at these five intersections, if any die at all. We also have no details about injuries, nor the amount of damage done. These are just the five intersections with the most accidents.

Alaskan women AGAINST Palin
Saturday, September 20, 2008 |
I was contacted by an Alaskan blogger who had apparently researched blogs in swing states. I must say I admire the dedication! The person wanted to spread the word about the number of people in Alaska, especially women, who are opposed to Sarah Palin. So here is a YouTube video featuring photos from a recent anti-Palin rally in Alaska.
