Less Choices!  More backroom deals from local Democrats
Thursday, October 09, 2008

According to my sources, the local Democrats have once again set in place a series of out-of-sight deals to insure that certain players get to hold certain positions of power—and if true, by doing this behind closed doors and off the ballot, they have therefore sacrificed voter choice and voter empowerment for the maintenance of the status quo.  The details of this deal seek to place certain interests into key City positions, sometimes for reasons that hardly even seem political or to the benefit of any particular ideology.  This is an example of the dark, underbelly of the political process.

Gerald “Bengal” Berding and His Big Money Fringe
Saturday, October 11, 2008

I recently came across some information we gathered back in 2007, concerning campaign contributions for the 2005 City Council elections.  The city council members holding office had their positions largely because they are good at fundraising. During the 2005 election, 4,762 persons made campaign contributions totalling $1,325,365.42. Twenty-three percent (a minority) of the people contributed 73% of the money.  619 persons made contributions over $1,000.  Additionally, 64 entities pitched up more than a grand. PAC and Corporate party contribution limits are higher than the $1000 individual contribution limit. This is how they stacked up back then.

Portune’s Deal, Unopposed Republican Judges, and the Case for Proportional Representation
Friday, October 10, 2008

Just take a look at how many Republican judges are unopposed in Hamilton County.  In a year with record-high voter registration in the Black community and tons of Democratic voters likely to be casting ballots, the Hamilton County Democratic Party couldn’t find any candidates to oppose all these judges.  Isn’t that extraordinary?  Or, isn’t it indicative of the kind of back-room deals people like Todd Portune engaged, securing his own employment while leaving people like Joe Deters unopposed. Though Proportional Representation would not affect judicial races, these deals by established Democrats show the need for implementing the system here in Cincinnati.

If Nader were allowed to debate…
Saturday, October 11, 2008

So what would really happen if Ralph Nader were allowed to debate?  What would it look like, to see Nader’s talking points on a television screen right next to the kinds of talking points promoted by the corporate party candidates?  Would it be anything like the clip below?  And if so, how would the American people respond to such a radical redefinition of the political conversation?

Corporate Democrats get more corporate dough than Republicans
Monday, April 07, 2008

They say, “He who pays the piper calls the tune”. The Wall Street Journal reports that Big business is bypassing McCain. The Center for Responsive Politics reports that of the 7 major industries that reliably support Republicans, all have given more to Clinton and Obama, except for 1. And even that 1 is a close call. The defense industry and the health industry have given much more to the Democrats.

Black Box Voting on Chain of Custody
Sunday, March 16, 2008

Editor’s Note: The material below is from Black Box voting.  The issue reminded us of an old video we captured with Stephan Skirtz.  He made waves in the 2004 blogosphere when he captured a photograph of a red pickup truck with a George W. Bush bumper sticker, and a guy handling uncounted ballots in a dark parking lot with no one around.
