What are the important issues facing the City?

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

A concerned reader recently dropped me an email, saying that this year’s council race was a bit trickier in terms of picking good candidates.  He wanted me to find out what readers of The Beacon thought were the biggest issues facing the City.  So if you have an opinion on the matter, drop a line in the comments section!

Here’s what my friend, Nick Gillespie, editor of Reason magazine had to say on this subject.  He looks down on us from up in the Oxford area.  What set Nick off was the story in the Enquirer today about streetcars:

“The project is a fantastic example of how city officials delude themselves into thinking that whipped cream and sprinkles—or a goddamn transit technology that is one of the most frustrating, underperfroming rides imaginable—can save cities. What is it about trains? Or light rail? Or streetcars? Is there a Freudian analysis that’s relevant here?
Why won’t cities such as Cincinnati do far more basic things to lure people back into their craptacular clutches? The list might include: Generally reducing taxes and regulation so that it’s relatively cheap to live and easy to do business in an area; creating a safe climate with regards to crime; reforming a public school system so people who don’t have kids (a majority pretty much everywhere) don’t have to worry about school issues and people with kids have some decent measure of choice; not spending billions of dollars on the owners of jerk-off sports teams.”

I hope the “concerned reader” finds this helpful.

In our humble opinion, the biggest issue facing the council today is:

Are you for the corporate interest, or for the citizens ?

Every divide is currently around that question.

Even the county debate on the jail centers on that basic concept.

The pathetic showing of the ‘fanatical five’ brought that issue to the best extreme that could prevail.

17 mil. for one corporate welfare deal after grand-standing on social program cuts, with a total cost of 2.5 mill, which benefits the entire community is the prime example !

When a corporate garage is more important than pools for our kids, then it is time to ‘FIRE’ the ‘fanatical five’ !

    To Peter Deans!

    What is RQ ?
    What is “IT”?
    Who is Cicil?
What can Pepper do about the Pot Law?
What is the park that is being strangled?
Who are the “super rich idiots”?
And you provided a link that gets the following response:

Why is God to blame for bringing you back to Cincinnati? You offer such clear and enlightened responses that are such a pleasure to read. You learned writing composition in which Cincinnati school?
