Here’s an interesting interview with Washington Post writer Liza Mundy, author of the new unauthorized biography Michelle. Michelle Obama has been more scrutinized than the spouse of any other presidential candidate. The focus has usually been on trivial things like her wardrobe, but this is the first time I’ve seen anything more in-depth about her personal history. It’s worth a quick read.

What do you think of Michelle Obama?
13 Nov 2008 at 10:33 pm | #
She’s obviously very intelligent and very articulate. It’s the same thing I’ve said about Obama, but he’s supporting bad policies that crush people. We’ll see what they do now that they are in the White House. She has the potential to be the first female President.

You are kidding right? Hilary was more scrutinized than any spouse of a candidate not even a competition and this is coming from a conservative
15 Nov 2008 at 10:14 pm | #
Hillary may have been the most scrutinized First Lady, but Michele Obama has been the most scrutinized spouse.

Not even close. The business with Hillary started long before her husband was elected. Hillary was on 60 minutes doing the “stand by your man” line and throwing out the “stay home and bake cookies” line throw in bills “2 for the price of 1” line and you had a media firestorm. she was the most scrutinized spouse ever. Not even close. she was in the news every day. 92 must be too far back for you to remember.

groups81, they were talking about Bubba’s infidelity, not about Hillary’s past and what she had written etc. I’m not the only one that said she was the most scrutinized and it really wasn’t the point anyway.

Um no they werent. How would Bill’s infidelity end in the line about “staying home and baking cookies”? That quote dealt with her work as an attorney so she (rightfully) lashed back at the media for attakcing her career. Just because one of your liberal wacko writers says something it doesnt make it true.
In 1992 Hilary was compared to Lady Macbeth in 20 articles pre- election. Jerry Brown accused her in a debate of conspiring with Bill to funnel money through her law firm for state business.
They attacked Hilary for saying that children should be able to sue their parents. Her advocacy on that and many other issues as an attorney was discussed on nightline, the front page of the wall street journal, the new york times, the American spectator did a series of articles on her. They also went after her thesis just like michelle obamas. So you are very wrong in your statement that they weren’t going after what they had written etc.
It shows you for what you are -a parrot of the far left with no actual knowledge on the issues you discuss. And once again here is the point of why this matters if you can’t even get the small facts right why should anyone pay any attention to what else is written.

They didn’t portray Hillary as a terrorist in cartoons or accuse her of giving terrorist fist jabs did they?
17 Nov 2008 at 07:16 pm | #
No of course they didn’t since the fear of terrorism didn’t exist then as it did now. The cover of the New Yorker was satire- not an actual depiction of her as a terrorist. and regardless being that isn’t scrutiny anyway now is it? You do know the definition of the word you are using right?
Why dont you hop on lexis nexis and do a search of Hilary in 1992 and Michelle in 2008 and get back to me with the results.

Fear of terrorism didn’t exist then? You don’t remember the Raygun-Bush years?
Nov. 4, 1979 52 Hostages taken at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran
May 1981 Threats from Libya
April 18, 1983 Bombing of U.S. Embassy in Beirut
Oct. 23, 1983 Bombing of Marine barracks in Beirut
Dec. 12, 1983 Bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait
March 16, 1984 CIA Station Chief William Buckley kidnapped
Sept. 20, 1984 Bombing of U.S. Embassy annex northeast of Beirut
Dec. 3, 1984 Hijacking of Kuwait Airways Flight 221
June 14, 1985 Hijacking of TWA Flight 847
October 1985 - January 1986 Hijacking of cruise ship Achille Lauro; Bombing of Rome, Vienna airports
April 5, 1986 Bombing of La Belle Discotheque
December 21, 1988 Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103
Yes I do know the definition smarty pants01. Fox “news” was (scrutinizing) examining in great detail-with careful or critical attention-the way Michelle Obama fist bumped her husband. They asked if it was a “terrorist fist jab”. The reason the New Yorker was satirizing her as a terrorist was because people were actually implying she may be.
That’s not as bad as being portrayed as a terrorist pre-election in this day and age, is it? Just because they didn’t find much of anything doesn’t mean she wasn’t heavily scrutinized. And again, that really wasn’t the point of the post, but feel free to yap away.
