Loyalty:  Not one of Heimlich’s Hard Truths?

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Though Phil Heimlich’s Christian talk radio show is not played in Cincinnati, that doesn’t stop him from trotting out his few Cincinnati friends as radio guests.  As pointed out by Kevin Osborne, Phil had longtime friend Chris Finney on to gloat over the pro-jail tax crowd—which is interesting, since Phil was a one-time icon for those very same players, like Si Leis, and Carl Lindner.  Why would Phil engage a public betrayal of those who have supported him?  On June 28th, Phil did it again—this time in a conversation with Peter Bronson.

About 29 minutes into the interview, Phil starts blasting Stan Chesley over the recent Fen-Phen lawsuit.  That’s all well and good, but wasn’t Stan Chesley a huge political supporter of Phil?  Why would Phil turn on all his old political allies?

Seems he’s forgotten about the character trait of loyalty!

Here’s what Phil had to say about Chesley on the radio:

Again it comes down to this greed thing, as if he [Stan Chesley] needs more money ... It kind of sounds like Stan reminded me of a guy out on the playground who gets all of the other kids to do something really nasty but when they get caught he’s not around.

Check out this excerpt from Porkopolis back in 2006, by Greg Flannery:

Democrats can only be frustrated by the behavior of Stan Chesley, who has provided copious amounts of money to Democratic candidates but now is helping re-elect arch-conservative Hamilton County Commission President Phil Heimlich, a Republican. Campaign finance records show Chesley has donated $12,500 to Heimlich’s campaign. Heimlich is running against Democratic challenger David Pepper, a former Cincinnati city councilman.

It’s already curious enough, Phil Heimlich’s obscure foray into irrelevant Christian talk radio, but why is Phil alienating himself from those who have been huge supporters?  Is he trying to make sure, once his show gets inevitably cancelled, that he never has a career in politics again?

If so, I’ve finally found a policy by Phil Heimlich that I can fully support!

Heimlich has always been his own worst enemy. Looks like he’s now finishing off the job.

  2. anon says:

When you’re not true to yourself, you can never be true to anyone else.

Phil is a child, looking for a best friend to “mother” him through life.  Nothing is sacred to him because everything is relevant to an objective rather than have objectives relevant to what is sacred.

  3. R says:

I think it is funny he is asking for donations..  Is he a radio evangilist now?

Is he going to sit on top of the lights of Paul Brown Stadium where he either raises 20 million or God is going to take him home?

  4. says:

I use to work at a pretty fancy bakery, Heimlich would come in frequently. The man likes himself some lemon squares… We should suggest he starts a bake sale to raise money for his next endeavor.

  5. started99 says:

So because someone gives you money in a political campaign you either have to support them the rest of your life or you aren’t loyal?  After all Chesley gave the donation to heimlich.  Heimlich didn’t give money to him.

It would seem to me that the Beacon who claims to like independence so much would fall all over this story of a former politician not giving into someone that is a large contributor.

Of course now I remember.  The beacon has no principles only agendas.

  6. anon says:

Chesley’s donation got him a 100K contract from the county and a chance at 1/3 of a billion

Our agenda is based on principles.

Our agenda is based on principles.

Please state which of your principles this includes.  The only one i can think of is “ruin phil hemilich by any means possible”

  9. anon says:

“ruin phil hemilich by any means possible”

Phil and his butt-slappin’ buddy accomplished that themselves.

Don’t know what your “agenda” is, Mr. LetterNumber Names, but besides Chris Finney, you’re the only person I can think of who would defend Phil Heimlich. Come to think of it, I’m not even sure Finney would defend Heimlich. Next time you bump into him, ask and get back to us, okay?

  10. Ricky Retardo says:

led43: “ruin phil hemilich by any means possible”

Not true! The Beacon has never misspelled his name, you silly goose.

When the choice is the Beacon or Heimlich you would be surprised at the number that would defend Heimlich.

Again I ask what principle you have at the Beacon that would convince you that not blindly following people that contribute to your campaign is a bad thing.  Do you support the buying of politicians for life?

  12. Weenie Roaster says:

On that we definitely agree! I would be surprised. I suggest you round up all those Friends of Phil and send over to post some comments here, because so far, Little Miss LetterNumber, you’re the first creature I’ve ever seen defend him on the Beacon. Heimlich wouldn’t even do so for himself, so I especially admire you for standing up for your special guy as he hides behind the baseboards.

Keep it up. Now that Phil has dissed Lindner, Leis, and Chesley, he needs your support more than ever!

How many votes did Phil get last election?
