JEFFRE BOWS FROM COUNTY COMMISSIONER RACE, ENDORSES STEPHANIE DUMAS

Cincinnati (OH)—Justin Jeffre withdrew from the Hamilton County Commissioner race today to throw his support to candidate Stephanie Dumas in the May 2 primary election.
"Rather than mount my own campaign,” Jeffre said, “I want to use my resources to help candidates like Stephanie Dumas get fair treatment.”
“I’d also like to reach out to candidate David Pepper: let’s pull together to help a solid, experienced candidate get a fair shake. Let’s get Stephanie Dumas elected.”
Jeffre accused big media of unfair bias in election coverage, citing the failure of local media to report on the “experience gap” between Stephanie Dumas and her opponent, former city councilman and mayoral candidate David Pepper.
“Big media keeps the candidate coverage minimal. Since very little information is disseminated about the candidates’ qualifications or voting records, most voters cast ballots based purely on name recognition. The press is not doing its job getting the real choices out to the public. I want to help change that.”

Someone else with character that doesn’t feel the need to preach about it or try to sell it. Good choice Justin.
I never understood Stephanie Dumas’ accomplishments until I looked at where she has been. I visited the Forest Park web site and looked at what was there. http://www.forestpark.org/economic/main_street.html The City has an Economic Development Department that has more information about funding and business creation and retention than Hamilton County does. They exhibit pride in what they have accomplished, as they should, and are a thriving community in the midst of Hamilton County which is declining in population and employment opportunities.
Critics will claim that she had very little to do with any of the forward progress. Before they get carried away with that foolishness I only need point out she was at the healm...That is leadership! She did this while raising a son and marrying over 300 couples in her tenure as Presiding Judge. The more I learn about Stephanie Dumas the better she looks. Which I cannot say for the other guys.
The current County Commission has more jails and condos on the river as an economic development strategy. If we lock everybody up we will no longer lose population so maybe their strategy will work, but I doubt it. Failed leadership makes us all poorer.
Elect Stephanie Dumas, She can lead this county forward.

fred, don’t act like Jeffre has had no effect. I watched both Mallory and Pepper adopt some of his platform points immediately following the primary. I don’t know who you are, but chances are that those two players did not adpot any of YOUR talking points to get elected.
He’s been spotted at various progressive political events, he’s volunteering for some progressive campaigns, and he’s getting involved with independent media.
Again, all of this sounds like a more impressive resume than most citizens can boast.

Cincinnati media hardly ever covers the primaries. The Cincinnati Mayoral primaries were the exception to that rule. It’s a shame because I think the primaries is when we loose out on the good candidates.

FunnelCake you are on to something here. In the 2nd District’s wide open primary last year we ended up with Mean Jean Schmidt. If the primary was covered better, had reporters told us more about Schmidt, etc. the 2nd District would not have had Mean Jean for these past months. Primaries are important to all parties and all citizens.

Funnelcake you’re on the mark once again. Most voters missed the primary even though Jeffre brought the national spotlight to it in the Mayors race. 20% turnout is pitiful, much lower than any real democracy. Most people didn’t know the date of the primary and I have to think the media bares some of the responsibility for that.
They get to pick who the “real candidates” are with selective coverage. They keep the coverage minimal to keep grassroots candidates out and big money corporate candidates in. After all that 1.2 million dollars that Pepper spent to lose went to them.
I applaud Jeffre for bringing attention to this problem and bowing out for a better candidate in Dumas. It’s too bad Pepper will not do the same.

He’s saying that the media didn’t give good coverage about election day so it was mainly loyal party voters. 20% turnout means most Dems and Repubs were too stupid to vote.
