(Cincinnati)—Local political activist and multi-platinum recording artist, Justin Jeffre announced today that Ralph Nader has endorsed Proportional Representation, which is on the ballot for the City of Cincinnati as Issue 8. “As a consumer advocate, Nader has always had the best interests of the people at heart,” said Jeffre. “As a nonpartisan public citizen, Nader knows that PR is a truly democratic voting system.”
In an interview caught on video here, Jeffre (who is a paid member of the Nader campaign, stationed locally on Main Street in Over-The-Rhine) asked Nader about Proportional Representation. “[Proportional Representation] respects the value of more voters,” said Nader. “It gives ideas a chance to breathe.”
Jeffre characterized the endorsement as proof of the reforming power of Issue 8. “PR works in democracies around the world, in cities across this country,” said Jeffre. “It works for the Republicans in New Hampshire, and the National Democratic Party. Now election reformer Ralph Nader has issued his support.”
Issue 8 is a citizen petition effort led by the Cincinnati branch of the NAACP, with broad political support, including endorsements from former Mayor Bobbie Sterne, former Vice Mayor Marian Spencer, Representative Tyrone K. Yates, Jim Tarbell, and others, as well as from organizations like The Charter Committee, The Cincinnati Business Courier, CityBeat, and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. A full list of endorsements can be found here.
