Heimlich Behaving Badly

Posted by The Dean of Cincinnati

Is former County Commissioner turned Congressional candidate still behaving badly?  If the following letter, recently published by the Community Press, is any indication, The Beacon’s favorite public enemy #1 is still failing to win friends and influence people.

This appeared in the Community Press last week:

As the daughter of a World War II veteran, I wanted to express my deep disappointment with Phil Heimlich, the former Hamilton County commissioner who is running for Congress. I’ve lived in Batavia for nearly 30 years, and last weekend was the only time I can remember seeing a politician march in the Veterans Day parade. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Heimlich had to take advantage of a non-political event and turn it into a partisan one. I don’t know how others felt, but I was personally offended by Mr. Heimlich’s actions. It’s outrageous, and I believe Mr. Heimlich owes those of us who attended, including the many veterans who were there, an apology for attempting to capitalize on such a sacred tradition. It was a moment for remembrance and celebration, not one of political pandering.

The MassDestruction blog also has an item about this:

While we’re on the subject of Mr. Heimlich… Did he actually turn a Veterans Day Parade in Batavia into a political event? Was Phil actually booed by Americans who didn’t want to be bothered by politics on a day devoted to veterans? And was he actually barred from entering Clermont County GOP Headquarters after the parade because of this stunt? Sources say the answer to all of those questions is “yes.”

That’s our Phil. Nice reminder of how arrogant he is and his well-known sense of entitlement. Vets from the 2nd district don’t want a rich son of privilege who never served in the military wrapping himself in the flag and intruding in their parade.

Way to alienate all your potential constituents, Heimlich!

I have known Phil and his family for over 2 years now. You will not find a leader who is as strong yet humble as Phil. I have been impressed by his faith and his willingness to stand up for it. Many times I have sat back and wondered if politicians really do have faith or if they are just speaking about it because it is the right thing to do for the campaign. I am glad to see that this time it is for real.

Why do I tell you all this? Because this week of Thanksgiving reminds me to be thankful for who God has put into my life. Because to many times I think we can look at the leaders of our country and get frustrated. We can feel like there is no hope for our nation. I hope Phil does win and not just because he is a friend, but because he could bring a little bit of that hope back.

On a side note…His dad is the one who created the Heimlich Maneuver. Yes I laughed the first time I heard that too. And yes we do joke around the dinner table about calling him if someone is choking. The nice thing about Phil is that he would joke about it too.

If you want to know more about Phil or about his campaign then you can visit his site at http://www.philheimlich.com. If you drop him a note, tell him I sent you. I think he will get a laugh out of it. So here is to you my friend, I pray for you and your family often and I hope God blesses you and your campaign.

Heimlich - the legacy of deceit from the CoAST cabal of “cut and run” politicians.  They cut programs for the regular joe to line their pockets with pennies, then run for another office.  That’s the new BCYR’s agenda - manipulate the public to garner power - then “cut and run”

First Heimlich succumbed to these dirty politics (mirrored after the Bush/Rove regime where you say the opposite of what you mean like “the clean air act” lol), now we have DeWine doing the same thing

Fool me once, shame on you fool me twice, shame on me

Horizon Community Church/Cult is an offshoot of Crossroad Church/Cult, which is one of the perpetrators of Citylink, which is a Weapon of Mass Urban Destruction (otherwise known as a pre-emptive NIMBY); which is supported by Phil and the Lindner family.

  8. Niles Standish says:

Here’s a 1993 Cincinnati Magazine profile of Phil Heimlich by Michael Graham, published shortly after Heimlich won his first term on council: http://tinyurl.com/36cmo2

Interesting to compare then and now. The article includes a lot of info about his then-campaign manager named Melissa Kirby - the article says he used to date her, too. Anybody know her? The article describes her telling Phil how to behave, how to speak, etc.

Here’s a priceless excerpt - Kirby giving Phil pointers on public speaking.

“It’s not a plus that you’re a New York Jew. That hurts you. Never say, ‘I’m a New York Jew.’”

“When did I ever say that?” Heimlich replies with a puzzled face. When an SCPA student asks him about the city’s human rights ordinance, he says he will vote to repeal the measure but that as a Jew excluded from some local country
clubs, he opposes discrimination in all forms.

    (snip)

Kirby:  “And another thing. Quit saying ‘minorities,’ Phil. All right? It’s diversity. We’re not talking about ‘you people.’ And women are part of that. I’m sorry, Phil, if you’re Jewish or not, you’re a Heimlich and you don’t count. You’re not disadvantaged.”

Heimlich: “I just think on that one question, on that human rights thing, it’s a good way—”

Kirby: “No, it’s not. Your answer is, We cannot change the hearts of people by legislating change. That’s how you
feel. I mean, you’ve never tried to get into a country club that excludes Jews. That’s a bunch of crap.”

Article mentions Finney and also how Heimlich hooked up with the Third Centurion, Jeff Eichhorn, former Jim Petro Communications Manager, now a commercial real estate agent in Lebanon: http://www.henkleschueler.com/commroster.asw

  9. Vera Z says:

OK, politically I am way to the Left of Mr. Heimlich, but personally I don’t know why a political candidate should not march in a Veteran’s Day Parade.  I have seen any number of political candidates marching in Veteran’s Day parades around the city.  Considering the cost of running for any office, it seems to me to be a ‘cost effective’ way of getting your name out there.
They also march in the “Opening Day Parade”, and the “Gay Pride Parade” and any other parade happening in our fair city.

I agree with Vera. Phil should definitely march in the Gay Pride Parade.

Come on “Jeebus” ....is Phil paying you? This is a man that has no heart for the people. It’s all about Phil. I saw this first hand when trying to get my son (a Veteran), to be bale to stay at Drake Hospital but because Phil decided to not give Drake the Bond money we voted for .....he was thrown out. In fact his (Phil H) comment was “what are we going to do next bring in a wheelchair brigade?”
Speaking of ....what did happen to that Bond money? Drake got sold (as Phil wanted) and no one ever mentions the millions of dollars that were NOT given to Drake? Maybe that could have built a new jail.
Oh and by the way….the Heimlich manuver has now be proven to NOT be a good idea!

  12. Jeebus says:

Mhammer, all due respect, please don’t blame me. I simply re-posted Matt McKee’s comments. I suggest you have it out directly with him.

  13. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

Sorry Jeebus! Hopefully Matt McKee can read my comments and know he is way off-track!
I had it out with Heimlich and his cohorts on the Drake issue three years ago and still obviously hold a grudge to the shady deal they pulled with Drake.
What I can not understand is where all that Drake bond money went to?

  14. anon says:

mhammer: <i.What I can not understand is where all that Drake bond money went to?</i>

Good question, m. Why not submit it to the three current commissioners and post their answers via the Beacon?
