Freakout Fest 2008: This city isn’t as conservative as it seems!

Posted by Media Release

Guest post by Samantha Brockfield

Coming soon to the Southgate House is an event that all progressive Cincinnatians with a wild streak should know about. Freakout Fest will be bringing you a night of dance-punk bands, stripper clowns, burlesque acts and performance art from LA, Chicago, Michigan, Columbus, New York, Cincinnati and more!

Performances by: Punk Bunny, Ultraviolet (Sound), The Smacks!, Le Technopuss13s, the Burlesque Ladies from Barnyard Burlesque, Sara Clown School, Erin Feller, John Handcock, Nina Wright and the Military Carnage Quartet, Cliquetalk, Queen Mae and the Bells, Traits, Micah Freeman.

According to event organizer and artist Nina Wright, former Director of OTR based Skull Lab gallery and music venue, “This is an event to break though the conservative fog that hovers over Cincinnati.” Come out to show your support of local underground art and music, and have a freakin’ great time.

Freakout Fest is Saturday April 5, 9pm – 2am, at Southgate House (24 E 3rd St. Newport, KY 41071) in the ballroom and parlour.

This town has always been a freak-fest! I’m damn near 50 and there always has been a good time had by all. All you had to do is just go looking for it!

  2. librariangrrl says:

I don’t think most people think the city is conservative-- it’s the county (ummmm.... the suburbs) that’s boring…

Between the (sorely missed) Skull Lab, Art Damage Lodge, the Mockbee, various Brighton, Northside, and OTR venues, there is certainly enough entertainment for the ‘freak’ in anyone....

I agree with old fart--you’ll find what you are looking for, you just have to look for it--and really--you don’t even have to look hard smile .

  3. Dr. Meow Meow says:

Update: Ultraviolet is NOT appearing on this bill!!!
But “Tight Leather” from Lexington will be there....as well as many MANY other acts!

    cheers!

  4. says:

man, the mockbee is the coolest, that place should just pull a southgate house and just be.
