There is a marked difference in these two cartoons.  The first seems to use humor to make a point—but is that second one funny?  It seems much more scathing.

Having said that, I wonder what a single cartoon combining the elements would be like—say, Israel killing innocents while a terrorist wore that kind of body armor.  All in one box.  It would be complicated and confusing and difficult to decipher—just like the reality of the Middle East.

  2. Not Funny! says:

In the one against Israel there’s a house that was damaged, but they got rid of the roaches. Ha Ha Ha

In the one against Hezbollah, the joke is they are baby killers. You know what’s funny is that Israel has killed many more babies than Hezbollah. Your cartoons aren’t funny, they’re offensive.

If you switched them, everybody would say you were anti-Sematic. It’s accepted to call Arabs uncivilised baby killers. You have to demonize people in order to justify funding the bombing of them and stealing of their land and resources.

    From Wikipedia

Editorial cartoons can be very diverse, but there is a certain established style among most of them. Most editorial cartoons use visual metaphors and caricatures to explain complicated political situations, and thus sum up a current event with a humorous or emotional picture.

In the first image, I chose to use humor to illustrate Israel’s “overkill” in the situation.  The use of humor in this case does not diminish the impact.

In the second, I chose to use emotion so it wasn’t intended to be funny.  It was the harsh reality that Hezbollah uses their own people as shields and martyrs against their will.  And Not Funny please don’t assume that because this illustration attacks Hezbollah that it that in turn it is an attack on all Arabs in general or the people of Lebanon.  I personally can see the difference...can you?
