City Council Non-Incumbents Speak!

Downtown’s Christ Church is famous for its political forums, which happen throughout the year and not just during election season. Recently, they invited the non-incumbents to speak for about five minutes each. We’ve got the exclusive content, giving you a chance to see these politicians speaking in their natural habitat—in a room full of voters—and not directly to the camera in a commercial. So is the Beacon officially endorsing Justin and Harris. I noticed they were the only two that had the video title worded “Justin Jeffre for Council” and “Greg Harris for Council.” The others merely had their name or in Winburns and Garry’s case the words “Stump Speech” associated with it.
I have to give credit for the attempt at subliminal advertising elements..ha ha.
However seeing as how this is a serious post to try and educate readers unlike an editorial or obvious parody, I thought this was the wrong place to write “Andre Harper (no turtleneck)” at the beginning of his video.

Get over yourself, Bearman. I get bored typing all that same stuff into titles, into YouTube, etc. So I just change things up as time goes on. Big deal.
Did you get to learn about the candidates?

I can’t open the links, but I’m glad Andre showed.
Years ago at that very forum I met Charlie Winburn for the first time as I was standing in line for my lunch to be spooned onto my plate.

OK here is my assessment:
Pat Fischer indicated that the candidates should discuss three things: Who you are, why you are running and the issues.
Most didn’t follow this formula so it became hard to follow them (Harris, Winburn, Garry, Bates).
And many only focused on one issue - Crime.(Garry, Bates, Fischer, Harper)
Overall, I would say the top 3 for really providing info on all three, speaking clearly and not being all over the place, and providing examples of what they meant were Kaup, Cooper and Jeffre. I would have added Harper in that as well but as I stated before he pretty much kept to only one issue (though I think he would win the prize for selling himself passionately to gain your vote).
Winburn spent three minutes talking about the other candidates, Garry told a nice story but I couldn’t get the point as to what that meant he would do. But I felt sorry for him b/c the guy that looked like Santa claus had his phone ring and then proceeded to talk to someone right in front of him.

There was a meet the cantidates on the Square a few days ago last week. I noticed that everyone of them were dressed professionally with suits, or other business attire. Justin Jeffre was wearing some crazy red shirt and a goofy hat.
I would say that dress and appearance shouldn’t matter, but this isn’t an ideal world and it unfortunately does. I don’t know much about Jeffre’s position yet, but I would recommend a different look.

Harper is an articulate candidate who exhibits more passion than anyone else I’ve seen. You should give it a rest on the turtleneck--it’s obvious you care nothing about candidates views, their experience or what they can do for the city. You’re more concerned about making others look bad so your loser boy-band candidate can look better. It’s obvious why nobody respects you as a serious journalist...you’re totally biased and a big joke.

Anyone who would not vote for Harper because a title in a video said “No Turtleneck” for two seconds does not deserve the right to vote.
