One cannot link to stories at the news aggregator CincyNation, since usually that site just collects stories from other places. But occasionally, it offers short blurbs of news and commentary that are original—and today there are two such items about the sheer whiteness of CinWeekly.
Here is the full text of the short entries:
Keeping it ‘white’ at CinWeekly
Did you see the latest issue of CinWeekly? Actually, take a look at any issue and what you won’t see are a lot of photos and features about African-Americans. There’s a complete absence of Hispanics but, wow, there was a rare story on someone Asian. For Enquirer’s CinWeekly, there’s no such thing as diversity, just a lot of whiteness.
Keeping Oktoberfest ‘white’
Then we took a look at the coverage of Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Completely white. We’re sure some of those costumed people in photos and TV footage don’t have a German background. Perhaps Irish, maybe Italian. But no blacks because the city, well-known for its intolerance and bigotry, has got to keep it white.

I don’t know about Cin Weekly but if there was an African festival downtown, there probably would not be alot of white people in attendance.

This is an old business partner of yours, right ?

You know come to think of it… when was the last time you thought about how great Cincinnati Arts are or is or ya all are it????
Just look at this… c’mon we don’t need all those stupid buildings that can’t sing.... one big park because no matter what… all white men and all black women will get along in it! Somethings in life are best being free… I wonder if Castellini really does believe this???
Do the sons and daughters of the Bankers?
Do the sons and daughters of the laborer?
Do the sons and daughters of everyone in between?
Did I spell Castellini’s name right?
I hope that Sherriff Leis takes all those
extra vechicles out of Patrick’s Parade…
C’maon DeWine when are you going to stop the waste?
Thanks but no thanks about the bike path…
you haven’t said a thing!
C’mon what about the waste in Sherriff Leis
wasting gas at three dollars a gallon… $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
What a waste! we need to give Patrick a parade without
so much sherriff waste…
what’s with DeWine being so quiet lately about the sherriff
huge money wasting parade????
Damn, will Leis ever come through when it comes to his own grandchildren?
Does, he for a memont think he is greater then us?????
Mr. DeWine!!!!!! When are you going to stop such waste?
Where is Peter Bronson???? O yea saying don’t taze me bro or something like that.
That part of the parade is just too much with too much waste… Anyway would a man like Patrick that fought off snakes really allow something like this to continue???
Whatever, anyway, this wasteful spending is all DeWine’s fault!

Is that something like those other two great Cincinnati bastions of inclusion and diversity called the Cincinnati Herald and The Black Family Reunion???

Well gee. Macy’s Music Festival comes to mind. Every picture in the paper was someone black in the attire they were going to wear. They were asked who was their favorite artists. Ditto for the family reunion.
Sorry you have such a hair in your a$$ over Oktoberfest. It is what it is. A celebration & recognition of the Germanic heritage in this City.
Correction. The dress isn’t costumes. They are ethnic attire.
Where is your proof in that you are “sure” some of those people in costumes don’t have a German background? You don’t have any. Some aren’t German on both sides of their family. Some are. Tough cookies you have a problem with that. I, for one, am a half-breed. Half German, half Irish. Yeah, some are part Italian, part Irish, part English, part Scottish, part Danish, part French, part Russian, part Austrian, part Southern German, part Northern German, part Eastern German, so freaking what??
You haven’t bitched about the Hispanic Cultural Festival held the other weekend. And you didn’t bellyache about Panegyri, the Greek cultural festival either. There are many, many more such events that haven’t blipped on your radar screen.
If one race-culture can do their identity thing, so can the rest of them. You seem to forget there’s equality across the board here, especially when there’s cultural festivities.
One thing you won’t see is the Germans, the Hispanics, the Greeks & other cultures down at City Hall begging for money. In fact, Cincinnati Metro cut off festival bus service this year to Oktoberfest, at the last minute. You didn’t see the Germans storming on City Hall demanding restoration of the services. The party went on as usual.
Before I forget, didn’t Chad Johnson, a black football player for the Bengals serve as Master of Ceremonies & leader of the Chicken Dance last year? Yes, he did. I guess that just isn’t enough for you, is it, Jason?
I did notice in all the papers, the Oktoberfest didn’t get as broad of coverage as the Black Family Reunion & the Macy’s Music Festival. I was really watching & gauging that. Maybe that’ll make Smitherman a little happy.

Peter,
I have submitted your name and a few examples of your ‘poems’ to Slate’s Bad Poetry Contest. You’re a shoe in to win, place or show!

Did any of you folks actually look at the online version of CinWeekly linked to in the article on the (damn near impossible to load) CincyNation site ?

First of all, not everything is racial and is amazes me that every discussion on this website inevitably turns into that.
Second of all, why don’t we discuss how much of a worthless piece of crap CinWeekly is? I’ve read high school newspapers with more substance than CinWeekly.

couldn’t agree more.... alot of misplaced fluff....
but last I checked, I didn’t hear black folx wondering if it was safe to go to Oktoberfest… but the opposite is always heard regarding the Music Fest and the Black Family Reunion, the latter being alot more ‘diverse’ than Oktoberfest…
