This week, Vlasta Molak from Cincinnati’s Gaia Foundation has decided to apply State money under the capital funds bill. Gaia Foundation promotes sustainable developments and livable communities, in addition to having two cats.
Molak says the Foundation has three projects that are directly eligible for applying. “They are relevant to the community needs, reducing greenhouse gases emissions, and to safety in Hamilton County and Cincinnati,” said Molak. “They combine economic development with green technologies and with solving social problems, which are the main cause of crime in Cincinnati and Hamilton County.”
“Thus in a fair and honest competition,” Molak concludes, “Gaia Foundation will undoubtedly be the prime contestant to win the funding for those projects.”
Molak has requested that the Hamilton County Commissioners send her electronic applications so she can secure these funds as soon as possible.
Additionally, she hosts a weekly potluck, where you can learn more about her projects.

No doubt one of the harebrained schemes she wants money for is the magic bus program. She claims to be the friend of someone who claims to have developed an electric bus with batteries and photo voltaic cells; to be available for $26K. I’d like to know how a commercially viable bus, full of high tech, cutting edge hardware can be built for that price when a metro bus costs $450K. Also bothering me is the question of how many extra of these wonder busses would need to be purchased in order to maintain the same service level we have now? A best case scenario would be that they would only run for about 4 hours before they need a 8-10 hour recharging. By that estimation we would need to purchase and maintain 3 time as many busses as we now have.
Granted this criticism is based on supposition but until she provides details for what she proposes to do with our money, that’s the best we can do.
BTW, I’m not a fan of her idea to turn Rothenberg School in OTR into an early release program for downtown drug dealers, either. This is another plan based on magic; whereby street thugs will be transformed into highly motivated individuals in the construction trades; who will volunteer their newfound talents to rebuild OTR. Is this nightmare, also one of the “projects” she wants our money for?

I don’t know anything about her program, I’m only familar with her unrelenting dedication to what she believes in.
As to these capital dollars - the best kept secret in pork funding. These funds have been abused and used for everything except what they’re supposed to be used for in the local jurisdictions.
It is time that the county exercises some of their authority and refuse to approve the pet projects of local politicians who promote using these funds unscrupulously.
