Recently, Justin Jeffre and I were planning for the revolution at a local Skyline Chili when Sam Malone and Charlie Winburn grabbed a table in the opposite corner. We approached them, and they warmly welcomed us to their table, kindly offering to buy us lunch. For over an hour, we discussed a wide variety of issues about Cincinnati informally, but there was one point where Winburn and Malone wanted to go on the record—they oppose the recent actions of the so-called Fiscal Fascist Five (Ghiz, Berding, Bortz, Monzel, and Cole), who wanted to decimate human services from the City’s budget.
Listen as Winburn and Malone speak in their own words against the mistreatment of our neediest citizens.

Jeff Berding continues to betray the principles we democrats stand for. He needs to be taught a lesson at the ballot box for his recent antics on council.
Send Berding a message this November by passing over his name on the ballot.

What does it mean when an endorsed Democrat like Berding is to the right of Republicans?

It’s good to hear that Sam Malone does not advocate beating gays. But his support of measures to ensure that you can be fired for just being gay does not make him any more acceptable.
People don’t deserve to be treated like 2nd class citizens.

Bengals quarterback Jeff Berding, is big business in suit with tiger stripes lining it’s deep pockets. It sounds like the Coletrain is prrring along.

It means that you’re a fool if you think there’s a damn bit of difference between them!
Jails, wars and doing the opposite of what the people want is a bipartisan agenda. Welfare for the rich is their favorite bipartisan policy.

Winburn wants to help the poor by locking them up. Both he and Malone need to find regular 9-5s. I’m sick and tired of the same people serving on council just to make a few bucks every few years. No more to Minette, Reece, Winburn, Malone, or anyone else that has served and failed!

I’m glad to see you are now supporting candidates who support the new jail iniative.

I wanted to bring a publication error to your attention.
“Fiscal Fascist Five” Should read; “Fab Five”

To Anon…
Here’s something to chew on: During Winburn’s last full year on city council in Y2000 he was chairman of the law and public safety committee. The city of Cincinnati achieved a 20-year low for violent crimes (737 reported violent crimes per 100,000 population in Y1999 and 840 in Y2000).
As of Y2006 our violent crime rate has gone up 50% to 1,182 violent crimes per 100,000 pop.
Winburn has a 9-5 job (more like 9am-Midnight) running his church in College Hill. I can tell you he doesn’t hate poor people. His approach is to offer assistance to those who accept it and turn their lives around, but for those who embrace the criminal life he wants them held accountable.
We need Winburn back on city council to hold the city leadership accountable for achieving results.

When did I say I supported them? I merely indicated that they are on the right side of the budget issues, unlike so-called Democrats like Jeff Berding.

And this is all attributed to Charlie Winburn alone??? It had nothing to do with the economy, being the pre-Riot and pre-George Bush era and/or having more human services? I don’t think so. What did Charlie Winburn do that was so great that he single-handedly made a significant dent in crime in 2000?

Dean if you weren’t supporting them, then I don’t know what to make of your comments just after Charlie stopped talking. By the way, how did you get him to stop talking?

As if we needed more proof that Skyline causes gas.

To: Don’t Lock’em Up,
Yeah...that’s exactly what I am saying. Winburn was integral to bringing about a lesser amount of drug related violent crime back in the late 90’s. While Winburn was on city council he led by example fighting drug dealers right where they live. He started the grassroots anti-drug program called “FACT (Fighting Against Crack Trafficking)” back in 1996.
The Cincinnati Post had a very good write up on it, here’s the link: http://www.cincypost.com/news/1998/fact081598.html
Show me another council member who leads by example on fighting crime? And I don’t mean some feel good sound bite like Ms. Reece’s “PEACE DOWN THE WAY COALITION”. Winburn actually put himself squarely in harm’s way in confronting dealers. That’s the kind of leadership we need once again.

Winburn Admirer is correct. He & his group of volunteers picked up after the “Up with Hope Down with Dope” campaign disbanded. The FACT people worked in concert with the “Hidey-Ho” (dope has got to go) faith-based groups. They appeared in Court on the drug criminals.
Today’s community Court Watch programs has Rev. Winburn to thank for such movements. Some of the principles he crafted are now in use with the Court Watchers.

Remember that we have a chance to reform justice in the city leading to this Novembers election.

Hidey Hidey Ho, Winburn is a Hell NO! And Sam Malone can hang it up if he’s considering running again. It’s not a good look to have a councilperson’s mugshot on the front cover of the newspaper while in office.
