ATBWT: Nate’s Fall From Grace

It really looks like Nate Livingston has gone off the deep end this time. His website, which was once an interesting source of political viewpoints, has now become a sounding board for the sad details of his personal life. So to use a phrase once coined by Livingston himself, let’s take a look at what happens “As The Black World Turns.”
At first, it seemed there may have been a political layer to his story—specifically in the allegation that Legal Aid was helping his ex, Amanda Mayes, in a custody battle because he says Tyrone Yates called in a favor. In this post, Nate wrote:
If you read this blog, you know that some people, including Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, have called on Marc Dann to resign from his position as Ohio Attorney General. They say he has acted unethically. Well, would it be ethical for a member of the state legislature to vote to give money to an organization, then call that organization and tell them to spend money on his lover?
In another post, Livingston seems to have acquired a series of emails between his ex and one time Cincinnati Black Blog contributor Monica Williams. In these posts, the story turns from having a political edge into a weird story of conspiracies. Here is an excerpt Nate alleges came from an email between Amanda Mayes and Monica Williams:
This is what I’ve come up with. Let me know what you think. I’ve told him it’s OK for him to pick her up this Friday. In the meantime, I’m going to find out how he’s going to do this. (Remember he doesn’t have a license). Once I have all the information (will he be renting or barrowing a car and what kind of car is it), I’m going to call the MI and OH State Police telling them to be on the alert for the car as it is being driven by a man without a license. My hope is obviously that he’ll get pulled over and never make it to MI. That will leave him all messed up. I just run a tremendous risk if he finds out that I dropped a dime on him. If it doesn’t work and he makes it to MI, I’ll just refuse to let Bebe go alone. I’ll go with her. If he wants to trip about that, I won’t let him take her at all. Either way, I’ve bought myself an extra week. Hopefully he winds up somewhere near Lima with the car impounded and a huge fine - not to mention no chance of getting his lisence renewed.
Think it’ll work?
For a moment, Livingston stepped back into the world of politics, trying to establish a case for overall relevance. At this point, though, one must wonder if he is just grasping at straws, or whether there is any kind of a point lurking beneath the details of his personal tragedy:
Just like many other dirty politicians (even those we like or used to like), Tyrone Yates should have never used his office and influence to get Legal Aid to give Amanda Mayes THREE lawyers. Why? Because Yates has voted to give Legal Aid millions of tax dollars. The first rule of public service is you don’t take government money and give it, directly or indirectly, to your family members or girlfriends.
The fact that Tyrone Yates is gay is only relevant in that it helps explain why he would risk his political career to help Amanda Mayes. You see, this isn’t just about a romantic relationship between two people, this is about a promise Tyrone Yates and Amanda Mayes made to each other: that they’d never reveal that they both have had sex with people of the same sex. Tyrone Yates has had sex with another man; and Amanda Mayes has had sex with numerous women. Had Tyrone Yates not stepped in and helped Amanda Mayes get help from Legal Aid, he risked her going public and telling his secret.
Tyrone Yates isn’t just any old State Representative. He is president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus and chairman of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation. He is a prominent supporter of presidential candidate Barack Obama, a man who promises to be a government reformer and corruption buster. He is close to Governor Ted Strickland and Attorney General Marc Dann. And lets face it, anyone and everyone who knows Tyrone Yates knows that he is getting older but he is still ambitious. If what I’m saying is true, and it is, how long can Obama, Strickland, and Dann stand with Yates?
The problem is that Nate does not keep his efforts focused on accusations that may have a public implication. Whether or not Livingston’s claims about Yates have any credibility, that kind of writing at least resides in a political realm—which has typically been the function of his blog. But in his latest series, he’s including things like this:
Oh, want to know what happened to Amanda Mayes’s dwarf rabbit “Spongy”? While Amanda Mayes lived in her apartment on Martin Luther King Drive, her lesbian lover Janice took care of Spongy. If Janice didn’t clean the cage, it didn’t get cleaned. So, when Amanda Mayes moved from Clifton to Over The Rhine, she simply let this poor little rabbit, who’d always lived in a cage, loose into the woods behind her home, where it was sure to die.
If nothing else, the newest developments at the Cincinnati Black Blog show that hell hath no fury like a blogger scorned.

I agree with the overall tenor of this post but I object to some of your phrasing particularly the title “Nate’s Fall from Grace”. Whose Grace? Yours? Mine? Bill Sloat’s? I mean really. Nate doesn’t need anyone’s grace, mercy or permission to be who or what he is or post whatever he does.
And as for adopting his phrase, “As the Black World Turns,” that’s better paraphrased “As His Black World Turns”, having absolutely nothing to do with skin color or race but more the sad state of mind he seems to be in and. As he claims people he trusted seem to be conspiring behind his back not only to keep their own secrets but to air his and take away his children using whatever minor influence they have to do so.
Nates posts are disjointed- following no particular order other than what Nate perceives to be a litany of injustice, betrayal, anger and exacting his revenge by revealing others’ personal information. However if his accusations are true, then it does seem that, what we perceive as madness may actually have some basis in fact.
I guess I’m loathe to dismiss him out of hand because how many times have even some of Nate’s most far-fetched claims turned out to be true? At any rate, it’s a sad state of affairs.

In order for one to fall from grace, one must first be graceful or held in some kind of reverence or viewed with some kind of respect. None of these would ever be used to describe Nate Livingston. He’s a liar, a fool, a criminal, and a racist. I take no pleasure in what’s happening to Nate (because that would be far more energy than is worth expending on him), but I have no sympathy, either.

Deborah Girl: I apologize for besmirching you in the other post, but Nate has a years-long published record of misogynistic statements against women and this latest tirade simply extends that. I would think his unhinged womanhating reason enough to discount him out of hand, but perhaps not.
I think I have this figured out, though. Nate’s fallout with Amanda is only the latest failed attempt by him to have a healthy heterosexual relationship. I think the “Tyrone Yates” in Nate’s posts is a projection of himself, and he in fact is the closeted Gay who slept with Amanda.
Think about it. Navy. Frequent incarcerations. Inability to respect women no matter how many have tried to support him. Irrational screeds against Gays.
I think it got to be too much for him and he still just can’t say aloud, “I, Nate Livingston, am a Gay American.” I really feel badly for his kids, though. Those from his marriage must be old enough by now to be impacted by Nate’s most recent flameout and he just won’t get help.
Tragic.

What is failed to be noted is that fact that there is a black man attempting to be involved in their child’s life. (must admit only know the sterotype image of the black man and parental responsibility). If it were your child would you do everything you could to protect your rights ? Would you out a politician if the dirty laundry seemed to provide the uncooperative parent and advantage with your child’s custody ?
Nate may be expressing what any frustrated parent would ?
Dean did you ever use trips with your son to make a political point ?

As I recall from his sister’s lengthy review of the Livingston family genealogy that she passed on to me at prom ...
Nate has at least one White great-grandfather and possibly some Native American ancestry.
According to The Dean that makes Nate neither Black, White, Native, or anything else, so how is is physically possible for Nate to be a racist?

This is pathetic gossip and taking advantage of one’s personal problems and lack of proper inhibitions to fan the flames. Think about the fact that there are children involved and remove this post and stop using gross frustration and anger, and maybe a mental break down, to stir up more gossip - this is no one’s business.

On the bright side, you have to give n8 credit for being an equal opportunity purveyor of dirty laundry; as he is now offering up a look at his. After watching him recklessly tread on the lives and reputations of others with lies and innuendo; I find it virtually impossible to muster any amount of sympathy for him.

Dean, don’t you think Joy Rolland was a little YOUNG to have gone to prom with me?
Speaking of which, it’s a little hard to make it out from what little is left on the Hamilton County site, but it looks like Joy’s most recent trouble involves possibly a series of gratuitous phone calls to her baby daddy plus potentially some in-person stalking - actually quite serious in her case as she tried to kill him with a car, but considering the light bonds aparently the court system isn’t taking her TOO seriously - of course that’s a bad mistake they’ve made in many previous cases.
Now, onto Nate Livingston’s sister and our prom ...
I believe it went something like this - that her date went to pick her up and something of a scandal broke out as she was being picked up by a White man. (Now, keep in mind The Dean’s head may explode as the gentleman in question was of considerable Native American ancestry but considered himself “White”.) Nate’s mother (presuming that his sister shared both of his parents) said something to the effect, “Oh, that’s not a big deal. My grandmother married a White man, for heaven’s sake.”
Now that makes Nate at least 1/8 White and, according to The Dean, somewhere between 1/16 and 1/8 of ANYTHING in addition to your “primary” ethnicity makes you lose ethnic identity privileges altogether.
That would mean Nate’s not Black or any other ethnicity and I don’t know how in the heck you can be a racist if you don’t have an ethnic identity.

Well, it didn’t take long for Blogger to shut Nate down after he started posting social security numbers, home phone numbers and addresses, etc.
How now will he publicly implode? Can a visit to his Media Massa Willie be far off?
Axinar: racism isn’t about who or what YOU are; it’s attempting to use another’s race or ethnicity against THEM as means of diminution. I’m frankly not surprised you can’t figure that out.

As the yuppies sweep the crack heads, near-do-wells, and other human wreckage out of Over-the-Rhine, it comes as no surprise Nate Livingston, the last of the whacko black activists, is coming apart at the seams.
Nate, Kabaka, Smitherman, Rolland, Amanda Mayes, and that bona fide basket case “General” Nikki, fought like banshees to keep Cincinnati backward and ignorant. Instead of the wonderful shops we see popping up on Vine Street, they wanted more Arab liquor stores, bar-b-que joints and grog shops. In other words, they wanted to keep things “black.”
And lest we forget, it was only a few years ago Nate wrote in his blog, “What black Cincinnati lawyer is better qualified to be a judge than Ken Lawson?”
Brothers and sisters, I’m talking gross dysfunction here, the kind of dysfunction that as we see in Nate’s domestic meltdown, defines who these people truly are—basket cases.
Amanda Maye’s dwarf rabbit story is a good example of this. According to Nate, Amanda Mayes released her dwarf rabbit into the woods when she was moving. Well, what kind of person would do a thing like that when all she had to do was drop it off at the ASPCA who’d have found a loving home for the pet?
And while admitted alcoholic crack head Ken Lawson was ripping off clients for retainer fees while never appearing in court to represent them, why did Nate continue to work for the crook? How could he?
The bottom line is this: like Kabaka, Nikki, Smitherman, Mayes, Rev. Lynch, Rolland, et al., Nate was wrong about everything and Cincinnati politics is better off without him and them.

Pray tell, how are you and your racist diatribe any damn better? People like them are necessary if for no other reason than to make people like you come out into the open instead of scurrying into the shadows like the disgusting cockroach you are.

REV. DAMON LYNCH: If it was left up to the good reverend, Over-the-Rhine would be one big halfway house. His solution to every problem in the city was funneling public money to him so he could build more halfway houses and pay the note on his BMW.

GENERAL KABAKA: his sins are so varied I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with this one: how many years ago was it when as Mayor Luken led a parade of well-meaning interracial folk to the new Findley Market General Kabaka turned what should have been a happy, positive occasion into an ugly one by screaming into a megaphone as he followed the mayor, “N—-er! N—-er! N—-er!”
Black activism? A selfless freedom fighter striking a blow against racism? Nah. How about a dumb bus driver acting the fool?
JOY ROLLAND: Sister Rolland is in jail now where she belongs, but who among us can forget her crazed antics over the years? The one that comes to my mind is how she had one of her lovers, a fellow named Qusimodo, stand outside City Hall and screech, “Mayor Mallory is a N—-er! N—-er! N—-er!” language, we should expect, taught to her by ex-lover General Kabaka.
SMITHERMAN: Remember how during one of his rants before the City Council, General Kabaka said Smitherman was the only person fit to be mayor of this town? And I won’t go into all the sins Smitherman visited upon this city except to say his silent acquiescence of Kabaka’s rabid bigotry is all any reasonable person needs to know that the best thing that ever happened to the city council is when General Smitherman got booted off it.
NATE LIVINGSTON: I suppose DeborahGirl would argue Natehad nothing at all to do with his boss’s racketeering, but I beg to differ. Ken Lawson was a degenerate crack head and thief for at least eight years. He systemically ripped off his clients for at least that long—taking their money and not appearing in court for them—and Nate had to know he was doing this, certainly his salary was paid with the money Lawson ripped off from these clients.
Did Nate report what Lawson was doing? No. In fact, as incredulous as it seems, in his blog Nate campaigned for Lawson for years. He wanted Lawson to become a municipal judge. In one of his posts he challenged anyone in the city to “name a black lawyer in Hamilton County more qualified to be a judge than Ken Lawson.”
AMANDA MAYES: And here, let’s remind DeborahGirl of the inscription on the placard Ms. Mayes toted during Kabaka’s protest of the Jewish Menorah at Fountain Square. It read:
“JEWS killed Jesus Had Black Slaves Stole our Black Identities.”
Then again, perhaps there’s a message of peace and harmony contained in these words DeborahGirl can help us get at.

Livingston’s children’s mother is wise to keep him away from them. He sounds like one of those guys that offs the entire family and then himself. He shouldn’t be around any children. The best thing she could have done was flee.

I’ve been at city council alot over the years and I’ve never seen General Nikki X threatening anybody to “go outside and kick their ass” over something they said at the podium if anything ricland you idiot she kept Chief Striecher and the boys from jumping on General Kabaka and other activist who went down there to speak out against this rogue police dept we have in this city while Smitherman sat on council on his ass & said NOTHING and did NOTHING while Mayor Luken constantly violated their right to free speech by throwing them out of council INCLUDING his so-called friend General Kabaka. As he was MIA during the whole Beatty trial (until it was over & his big mouth got to running) Smitherman was a quiet as a rat I mean mouse! Ricland General Nikki X banned your ignorant ass along time ago for spewing the same kind of bullshit on her blog that you are spewing over here and Nate Livingston banned you too! For once in your life get the facts right son!

Nikki X was consciously excluded from my laundry list of ne’er-do-wells goneby. Regardless of one’s agreement or lack thereof with her positions, she has always, always comported herself in public with dignity, respect and restraint. I won’t tarnish her for the company she sometimes kept.
Even Derrick Blassingame was rescued; so too may she.

Bottom line—-a slew of these alleged “Black voices/leaders” in the community consist of B.S. “personalities” caught up in extreme narcissism, wrapped in a slew of VERY personal legal/economic issues, cloaked under the guise of “ADVANCEMENT” of the African American community and then presented as such. And, much like LinCOON and those of his ilk at THE BUZZ, many of these ass-clowns have done a MAJOR disservice to the A.A. community.

I’ll say it again because for some reason, that Deborah just cannot get her mind wrapped around the truth on the individuals mentioned in this this thread. When it is the truth, out rolls the race cards, & everyone automatically becomes arrogant, bigots & all the other salacious name-calling.
I don’t believe “people” were ever in the shadows & those exact same “people” were always rather vocal & honest about the problem makers. Not one of them have lifted a finger to put together an agenda to support the blacks & anyone else they claimed to represent. If anything, these very problem makers did just that - create more problems, widen the chasm, increase the distrust & kept black people oppressed, especially if they didn’t sign on to the personal agendas of continuing hatred for other colors, personal social preferences, cultures & beliefs. Ricland is right on the mark with his summation.
As for Nichole Davis conducting herself with comportment & all that other business, I wonder if we’re talking about the same individual. I & several others witnessed her give 2 white people sitting in the cheap seats at City Hall all the grief they could swallow. Neither person buckled or cowered down to this General Nikki. Actually, they sat there laughing at her. However, Nichole Davis certainly put on a stoic front during the Howdy the Hitman trial. Had no choice. Anyone sneezed, farted, or coughed were subject to contempt of court, 30 days in the can. That was made crystal clear at the get-go.
All these rabble-rousers are finished in this town & they know it. Maybe this city can start advancing in a decent direction, where EVERYONE is represented at the table, not just a bunch of black & whites, that seems to be the accepted diversity today. Diversity. Oh yeah right.

Jesse, you are so wrong & sadly mistaken. I don’t believe I’d know Ricland if I saw him in the grocery store. However, Ricland is someone who strives to tell the truth, a virtue so many have a tough time accepting. I don’t always agree with Ricland’s point of view on some topics, but I respect the fact he won’t put up a false front just to appease those who are chafed by his candid comments. More often than not, Ricland will deliver key points I solidly agree with. On this topic, I agree with him 100%+. He put the whole truth out there.
I will stick to my word on Nichole Davis. I was there, as were several other people to witness her out of character performance. I don’t know which was funnier - Davis getting all lathered up at the white folks or the white folks laughing at her. It was back in the day when she was a$$cheek to a$$cheek with Kabaka & The Delegate.
